Getting started with parkour

What tricks can someone try to learn to help them get started in parkour? In skateboarding you learn how to ollie and how to ride a mini ramp first.
In skiing you try to Learn 180s, boxes and bio 1440s first. But how does one get started in parkour, without wrecking themselfs trying something to hard, or learning a trick that won't help them learn any other tricks, and how can they progress from there?

Whatever that shit that you do on the wall where you put your hands on it and then flip. Me and my friends tried on a wall that was slightly inclined back so it was a bit easier but we all got it on our first tries.

Sorry for double post but most gymnastics places have beginner parkour classes. That would be a good place to start i guess

Find a nice little brick wall with a flat top.

Practice the basic's such as the saut du chat on there, you can first try to land on top of it if you don't dare to go over it at once.
Start with a two-footed take of, then go to the single foot.

Try to get those dialed down.


DO NOT JUMP FROM HEIGHTS.

Anyone can jump from heights, just takes some stupidity, you will fuck yourself over.
First learn the roll, the roll is crucial and really hard to get down.

DO NOT JUMP FROM HEIGHTS.

A lot of it is endless repetition.

I used to train with this lad back in the day, his jumps might not be very spectacular anymore but his form is excellent:

The roll is key, practice standing and going into a roll, not a summersault. And get comfortable doing it both sides too, that will be a big bonus.
Go to some trampoline, gymnastics or tumbling gym. Learn some flips, learn to do them on the ground, learn to land them safely and what not, you can also practice some of the crazier vaults and what not in those matted facilities.
Another important thing is strength, you need high upper body and core strength. I would recommend calisthenics as oppose to using weights, as those will train muscles your body will actually use in parkour.
There are loads of tutorials out there, go check them out, and have fun!

There's an all-parkour gym here that's pretty fun. In the beginner timeslots, they start out with rolls (front and back) and then the various vaults (kong, dash, etc.). Then build upon those (e.g. double kong, longer distances, etc).

Wall runs, spins, front flips, and scaffolding came after you were good with the basic vaults and rolls.
