Marker squire Brake Problems

I've gone through 3 brakes within not even a year. two were because the bars bent and then when I tried to bend them back the whole brake broke. the most recent was when, for some reason, this happend.

and it's supposed to look like this (this is a photo of the brake on my other ski)

I took the brake off the ski and then pushed the metal back into the black plastic bit but then when I put the brake back on the ski and tried to put my boot in, the metal popped out of place again.

is this fixable?

do markers have a reputation for stuff like this or am I just unlucky?

Just unlucky. Brakes break its better they break then they destroy the entire heel piece at the same time. Just get some new ones.

I had this problem with the brakes from my squires. what's happened is the plastic lugs on the brake pad, which hold the metal piece on, have snapped off. It's not fixable sadly other than maybe going to town on it with duct tape but then you're relying on it not coming off and your ski running away on you. I tried to get them warrantied on the plastic failing but it didnt happen. Just going to have to suck it up and buy a new pair of brakes or ask in your local shop if they've got any spare brakes kicking about.
This isnt a fault with the squire and more a fault in the marker brakes.

The problem is that people are buying the Squire because it's a cheap binding. Unfortunately you get what you pay for.

The Squire binding has two modes, "in" and "out" with nothing in between. You should have been riding a Griffon with more elastic heel release that will hold you in better when landing switch.

This is not a warranty issue as it is user error

Having used both i agree about the in and out mode of the squire and the increased elastic response of the griffon but i would argue that this isnt to do with the response of the heel as mine broke while attached to griffons and more just a piece of plastic which is under a fair amount of strain from the brake spring wearing out and failing.
To be honest no brakes are properly designed for releasing whilst riding backward. There has been little done in design of brakes since what we have now was introduced and as such theyre not made for modern freeskiing. The best that can be done is use stronger materials until somebody redesigns brakes.

I completely agree with you.
But the market doesn't like expensive bindings. I've seen kids buy a top line ski (ie Volkl Wall) and want a Squire or Axium 100 binding for it because they're inexpensive.

If you want something that won't break like that, open your wallet and buy a set of Jesters. The brakes screw into the metal housing and it's going to be hard to break that.

Bump because I'm having some big issues with squires. A few days ago, the brakes on my marker squires came off but broke off part of the heel piece as well, I got new bindings, same marker squires $180 just thinking that what happened was one-in-a-million...... Two days later on new bindings THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED, I bring it back into the ski shop and they're going to try to refund it from marker. Part of the issue was that they came off just landing switch because my dins were at 7 (I didn't crank them higher) and I'm 6'2" 170lbs. Anyways, any recommendations for new bindings if I can get a refund? (Hate to cliche but +k)

how about buying Griffons or Jesters?

stop buying what's cheap. it's cheap for a reason

Got it, will do. Unless solomons or looks are better. I just want something that isn't going to break itself and/or my wallet.

this is the second season I've ridden my Squires and I haven't had a problem, maybe you're unlucky... I do a good deal of landing / riding switch as well

Din was at 7 (way too low) popped out, brakes caught on snow hard enough to rip the heel piece. Unlucky that it happened twice in under a week. I'm going to crank those dins after I get it fixed.

Salomon sth2 13 is only $40 more expensive than the squire and about $200 more binding.

Thanks! And I can't get a refund, just a replacement, I'll be toughing out the rest of the season with the squire, then hopeful track up enough cash from a summer job to get some new gear that won't break right away.
