I feel like high school is fucking passing me by.

So I'm in my junior (going into senior) summer. I used to be (middle school, 9th grade) really annoying and awkward. Faggish indeed. Then I became normal(ish) after a couple of girlfriends. I never drank or even thought of drugs.

But like a little less than a year ago, I decided that high school was passing me up so I decided to drink at a couple parties. Lame-ass parties (I'm not friends with the coolest crowd).

Fast forward to now. Now I really feel the desire to live a normal high school life, ya feel? I drink and I've smoked weed. I have so many friends; I hang out with people every single day-- but they suck. They hold me back. As I've changed, I've drifted from my friends. I can't relate to anyone anymore, and I feel totally alone. They aren't adventurous and don't want to take HS for what it's worth. They don't want to make awesome memories or have crazy stories or go get high in sweet places or do hoodrat shit. I have only a handful who drink and a couple who smoke occasionally.

Unfortunately, the people I would relate to now, are already in their own cliques and bullshit. The people that want to live life like there's no tomorrow. That's me!!! Im outgoing and shit BUT... im sure everyone remembers me as that fucking awkward kid (how do i befriend them?) But I feel like I'm held back by my friends and life is passing me by. What do I do!

Really late to make new friends honestly, but 9th and 10th years are supposed to not be as good as they're made to sound honestly. This year was the best so far for me, but just be outgoing and don't talk shit about people and you'll fit right in. Don't change who you are for someone else though.

Just wait til you get to college, find a solid crew to roll with and fuck unlimited amounts of shit up

Kinda skimmed through the advice all seemed good, Iv been in similar shoes before. Try to make new friends and shit, especially if youre not feelin your current crowd. And when youre in college youre going to want to have a bunch of fun hometown friends to chill and get fuzzed up with and shit over summer break.

I was also (i thought?) clearly kidding. That kid ACTUALLY steals stop signs. Or just lies about stealing stop signs because he thinks it's cool, which isn't much better than actually stealing stop signs.

honestly if youre gonna smoke weed do it with a small group of friends. it doesnt have to be with all the badass jocks or the hottest girls. go out and make your last year as good as you want it. im gonna be a sophomore next year so i dont know much but my brothers clearly just partied and often drove around causing a scene which is fun. but talk to the kids that relate with you the most. just remember in the future youre gonna wanna look back and think about the fun things you did with a couple of friends in HS not getting fucked up at parties its just something stupid to think about because once you graduate all of that will not matter because youll never see a lot of those kids after college or whatever you do. just stick to hobbies through HS im gonna stick to skiing, skating, and learn more about cars and how to work on them. being cool in HS doesnt matter enjoy your last year

another thing my brother did was to hang out with old childhood friends and leave the party group and they started playing old childhood games at school during free periods and messed around. now they still share the same hobbies of working on cars, messing around in public and revising there childhood and do the stuff they did 10-12 years ago

I live in a small neighborhood where 85% of the people are over the age of 60. The ones who are actually my age, I am friends with. However nobody feels like doing anything after 7:30. It's ridiculous. The group of kids who came before mine was a lot cooler in my opinion. I was only 13 when those kids were going through high school. I remember that they had parties, got turnt up, and were all about that life. I have spent a lot I time in my cousin's neighborhood and it has a much more chill vibe there . High school is going by slowly for me

my 2 best friends are actually people I was great friends with when I was 3-6 years old. Then we all went our separate ways and somehow ended up being friends again mid-high school.

college is a different story. You can make some amazing friends there (I've never met people I so thoroughly enjoy being with more than my college roommates) but also a ton of random people who will be decent friends in college, and yet you'll never see them ever again after.

really when I look back...I came out of high school and college combined with maybe 8 people that I can really call friends. But they aren't conditional. I could call any one of them at any time, and know they've got my back for any reason.

im only gonna be a sophomore and i already know that ive lost friends and know that the ones i have now probably will only talk to me skiing. high school helps figure out who your best friends are. and the same shit happened to me but in middle school because i went to pre k in the town of my middle school and all those kids i were friends with are now some of my best friends

This. I have some good friends from outside of my grade and outside of my school through skiing, like I said on the first page of this thread. Some people in my grade are chill and the rest are total jerks. Also, I hope there are more people like me in my grade next year because I too will be entering my sophomore what of high school.

college > high school by so much

everybody in high school is trying to fit in with the crowd. In my experience in college, individuality and expression are valued much more greatly. People become less concerned with whats "cool" and start doing what they actually want to do with their lives.

If you are worried that the best part of your life (high school) is going to pass by uneventfully, forget about it because college is so much better.

Senior year, just be friendly to as many people as possible and those who share interests will want to hang out with you. What I found in my senior year was that every different social group and clique or whatever seemed to realize all of a sudden that we were really coming to the end of time spent together and every person was nice to each other. Strange combinations of groups chilled with each other and everyone had the thought "What the fuck, all these other people are actually really cool, why are we only coming together this last year?"
So do not worry about attaching to a new clique; you'll see that you will most likely end up spending time with everyone and your group of friends may even end up being in some of the same places as the "cool" kids.

Lucky you. High school blows. Enjoy it as best you can while you're there and then move on. Life isn't dawsons creek, sometimes high school is just high school. Go out and live but don't feel compelled to try to pull some sort of beautiful moment out of everything that happens.

High school really only matters when you're there.

It's cool you don't get fucked up but no need to preach it as if you're in some elite class. It's good you're doing cool things with your friends and don't feel the need to get fucked up just to have fun.

OP just needs to loosen up a bit. If you read too much into things it causes you to over think them. Just flow with it and see where it takes you. There are plenty of cool people out there with similar interests to you. One of the good parts of life is that after high school, people tend to mature and be less weird/ judging. It becomes much easier to talk to strangers regardless of even having any similar interests.

Have to disagree with most. Although high school can suck at times, if you involve yourself with tons of people it can be sweet. Find a group of friends but don't be afraid to branch out to other cliques. And the most important thing is going to as many parties as possible.

First part of this so much

Coming from a small town where 80% of my graduating class also went to the same elementary school and played on all the same sports teams etc.. As me, the friends I made were based of of proximity. A very smart HS teacher of mine tried explaining this to my class my junior year. When you get in to college the only thing forcing you to talk to people or interact with certain people is because you WANT to, so te friends you make will truly be your friends and be people you enjoy being around rather than a few decent friends that you've grown to get along with after going to school together for 10 years.
Also second part so much. My brother graduated two years ago and am overwhelming majority if the "cool kids" who all the hot girls hung out with and who threw all the cool parties are still dookg just that. Nothing. Sitting in our town drinkin Rainier beer and reminiscing on high school. You have better days ahead.

Life just keeps moving faster after highschool. I graduated HS in 2011, and now I am over halfway done with college. *GASP* (Yes I know that is how time works). Time will continue to move quickly if you follow one key piece of advice. Have fun. Corporate life is right around the corner for me, and it is going to be a shock to the system. So find your friends, whether theyre from HS or college it doesnt matter. Align with people who share similar interests, hobbies, and are FUN. Do something fun and different with them. Just because they may seem different does not mean they are not fun. Dont sweat over the little things. They pass quickly as well. That girl who screwed with you? Forget her. The kid who was a dick to you? Forget him. The little people dont matter. You will be lucky if you come out of highschool and college with 3-4 friends who you stay in contact with your entire life. Thats how it works.

I'm a senior and feel like high school has just been a huge blur. I've had too many good memories to count with people I care about. it's pretty odd how my group of friends came to be. we started experimenting with drinking and all that during our freshman year. it was fucking awesome let me tell you those are the reasons me and my friends are still very very close. we're not bums either it's not like that's all we do. but it's really nice having trust in your friend group. we all got caught doing it at the same time so now our senior year we can just blaze around parents and what not. not to mention that it's nice having friends that are on the same level as you because it really limits the amount of peer pressure they're capable of inflicting on you haha obviously peer pressure isn't a good thin but friends will always do dumb things and you gotta be ok with that. if you all can hold your liquor well there's not really isn't room for trying to make someone do something they don't want to do. idk, relate to people who have the same mindset of lifestyle because judging others by their own lifestyle choices is no fun and immature as far as high school goes. enjoy it!!

Use high school to do as much skiing as possible. It's not as easy to come by in college. That's my biggest tip for anyone in high school right now. Enjoy it, too. College is certainly tenfold better, but there are many aspects of high school I miss.

fuck high school. out of the last 10 years, if i could re-live any years, high school would be basically at the bottom. Freshman and sophomore year of college were best, and the first year after college with real job making good money
