VOTD and Splash Page Integration

I think that I just had a pretty good idea. The splash photo is an awesome way to celebrate/show off the photo of the day. I was thinking, though, there's not really a place like that for VOTD besides the VOTD page itself. What if we integrated it into the cover page?

Here's what I'd imagine it could be:

I'm thinking that the little box that the VOTD is in would be coded by a web builder to scroll with the page, so it stays in the same place on the screen the whole time regardless of whether you're scrolling or not. It could also be higher in the screen or on the other side, as I just realized that if you scrolled down with it there, it would cover the photo information.

Anyway, you'd click on it, and the box would expand to this WITHOUT leaving the splash page:

As you can see, there's the embedded video, title, as well as the same details along the bottom that are seen with the POTD.

I love users like you that are good enough with computers to think up the ideas for this type of thing and show it in a good way

I'd really love to see the video of the day integrated. I'm not sure that's the best way to do it, but somehow it would be awesome.

Gavin, on a 'normal' homepage with everything on, its realistically 75%+ video, where Splash page is really the only place photography gets showcased other than the homepage, but a lot of people hide it. Photo section really doesn't get a whole lot of traffic. I agree, it would be nice to have a bigger spotlight for VOTD but to me it just doesn't feel like the right way to do it.


What if there was a yellow bordered with a 'video of the day' title for the given VOTD, but just on the homepage?...

Either way VOTD needs to be updated. getting VOTD used to be so cool because everyone would see your edit, and it was right on the homepage for the day.
Now my friend got it a week ago about and didn't even know he got it. Its just needs to built back up like before and made into the home screen, not just be a link on the menu bar.

If the reason we have POTD is because photos on the site get less traffic than videos, why not have news of the day?

Have you never noticed the "HOT NEWS" right next to where you log in on the splash page........
