I have a house at a mountain in VT and the view from my window is of the park. For the longest time as a kid, I would always wonder what those kids were doing and always thought it was so stupid. The first time I tried a box I was hooked; fuck my judgemental self. I could of been freeskiing ages ago.

going full speed down a dimly lit trail at night thinkin i'm boss, and didn't see the rope stretching across a closed trail ankle height.

so yeah... hit that bitch, and did 2 or 3 somersaults before exploding into a cloud of ski gear.

Tried a 360 off a wedge ramp box type thing. Ate shit hard, right when i stood up got plowed by a boarder hard as fuck and knocked me the fuck out for like 3 minutes.

First park jump I ever hit:
I was probably like 11 or 12 at the time, I had been skiing for like 6 years already at that point so I could ski most runs without too much trouble. But the park was just this massive intimidating place where snowboarders would hang out so I never went there.

I had a friend who skied park, so I decided I'd go into the park with him. I wanted to hit a jump so he told me to go for the small one and not go too fast. Having no idea what I was doing, I pointed it and hauled ass into this tiny kiddy killer, flew off it riding the back of my skis, sent it to the gucci plateau and landed flat on my ass. My friend came down laughing, told me it was awesome, helped me get my gear back together and after that it took me a while before I was willing to hit another jump haha.

First time I tryied a "jump" I said to my dad: "This is biggest jump that I never hit" haha then I never landed it I fell on my back and the "jump" was a small rail kicker haha

also, when i was a gaper i had this fuckin hugggge and awkwardly shaped helmet that was black with big blue flames on it. i thought it was the hottest shit back then. i even saved up all my grass cutting money so i could buy it. i cant help but laugh when i think about it now.

it kinda looked like this, only way more homosexual.

was skiing along the side of a trail, was flat light and foggy so couldn't see shit, my ski hit the bank, proceeded to eject, went face first through a wooden fence. broken nose and concussion.

I was skiing in flatlight, on a powder day, and basically I skied off of the side of a run into a series of 6 foot drops covered in powder thinking it was only one drop because of the flatlight. Stacked it right beneath the beginning of a chairlift and dropped all my shit everywhere. Then had the walk of shame to the chairlift, covered in snow, put my skis on and got on the lift.

Ah remember it like it was yesterday. I was 7 years old and second day ever on the hill. A friend talked me into heading up a lift that I had never been on before. It was dumping wet heavy snow and had no clue what I was doing. One turn later he was gone. So I took matters into my own hands and headed off. made a few nice turns and face planted into a nice soft pile of fresh. Skis came off and goggles full of snow I collected all my shit and tried to get my skis back on. Apparently I missed the class on re-engaging your heel piece. After the same guy skied by three laps he finally stopped and helped me out. After many tears and snot all over my face he was my savior. Thanks guy.

I was skiing under the lift with my goggles on my helmet. The goggles fell of and i had to flail my arms in order to catch them. I caught them and thought i was so awesome until i lost my balance and caught an edge. This turned me around so i was skiing switch (without twintips). The snow caught the back edge and i flipped and spun as my gear flew in every direction. I took the walk of shame hearing multiple comments and laughs. "Your not good enough to ski backwards" was one of them.

Another time i decided to drop a cliff. It was a smallish cliff (maybe 8-9 ft) but i failed to realize a branch that was hanging over. i jumped off and caught my skis on the branch. I did a half front flip to face plant underneath and it wasn't a powder day either. It was painful, i broke my poles and it was under the lift. (Except that this happened this year haha)

I used to be a racer when i was younger, and i was flying down ina a somehwhat tuck on a mountain i have never skied before and i hit a mougle area and i just flew down bouncing off the ground doing flips and bouncing until i stoped flipping and slide down 80% of the trail.

one of my first skiing outfits as a kid consisted of: a headband, tight aerodynamic sunglasses and a fluo orange onepiece with reflective stripes
and the most gaper thing i've ever done as a kid was probably that i litterally shit my pants on a ropetow ... :P

at a big air competition that took place in denver a few years back there was a pro walking to the jump with t walls hot doggers and i yelled at him 5 time calling him tom cus i wanted his autograph and he just turned around and said "im not tom" fuck i was so embarassed. then later i saw tom and thought it was justin dorey.

Kicker-gap-landing thingy. I always ended up in the gap and it was pretty deep lol. Once went full retard and skied from top to bottom without slowing and almost crashed with a snowboarder who was getting speed for a jump. I still hate myself for that!

Probably around 5 i tried to get on the lift and it straight ran me over. Dragged me a good 4 feet before they stopped the lift. Had to wipe a large amount of tears away.

I wore a short, but also a fat jacket. My pants were an inch under my belly button. I didn't have twintips at that time, but still went to the park with them, and the first time I tried to jump I had too much speed and I got way too backseat and destroyed my ass. Everyone laughed at me. Same when I tried to slide a box for the first time.. I didn't know that the box was sticky so I fell on my hip on the rail.

I didn't even wear a helmet at that time. Wonder why I'm still alive..

Still am a gaper and proud. Im 26, only started skiing at 15. In Australia either your family is fucking rich or you live very very close to the mountains. Don't care that i'm a gaper as I only get 2 weeks max on the snow. Yet I can ride better than 95% of Aussies on Victorian mountains. My whole country are gapers and if your not your just some spoilt little rich kid.

I was on vacation at Timberline with my brother and cousins and some weird old lady that is holding a bottle of beer starts following us around. Anyways, we were talking to her on the knuckle of a jump and then Joey Van Der Meer goes of the jump and almost hits us. True story.
