Idea: Use donator money to create NS Make a Wish

I really like this idea!

this is an awesome idea, but i feel like the donator stuff isnt even necessary... we could raise the money for somthing if the need came easily

yeah, like have a "current issue" up, describing whoever/whatevers issue and the amount needed, then a pot where people can throw in their money by paypal and co, according to how important they think the issue is.

How?

I've done several fund raisers on TGR for very seriously injured mags and it's always a challenge getting people to agree on how to collect the $.

We also have had sales where x amount of all items listed in the sale thread goes towards the cause at hand. That was quite successful actually.

It's just an idea. All that code and accounts and such for beer money seems ridiculous to me. Todd Jones set up a fundraiser account with TGR movie tour ticket sales after seeing how we all came together to help people a few times, I think NS should have something like that too- it has 3x the members and is always touting its community... But what's a community if it doesn't pool resources to help the less fortunate? The amount of effort this would take is relatively low, but the return is infinite.

everyone loves this idea until it comes time to pay.

don't wanna burst your bubble, but that's life. maybe ns is different, but i find this to always be the case.

i think the difference between us and tgr, as i'm sure you're aware, is that when it comes to this kind of stuff i believe more of NS would come together for someone than TGR would. NS has it's deal with trolls and shit but every time something serious comes up i always see tons of kids turn their shit around and start coming together. i don't want to put anyone on the spot but in the opioid dependence thread that kid has a disease that literally can't be diagnosed or treated and i saw a few people saying kind words, that actually matters even if it is subtle on the grand scheme of things, i think it proves we have people that would definitely help a cause like this.

if you feel like helping, why don't you just donate directly to an actual Make a Wish charity. It'll go to someone who actually needs it, not going to buy some middle-class man a new pair of skis just cause he feels like a new pair.

This is by far one of the best threads ive seen! super good idea and im sure itd be pretty easy to pull of. a lot of pros would love to ski with someone like that and a lot of companies would love the attention/good name that comes with helping someone out like this

Well the money part is really the LEAST important part of this being put together. I see the Industry influence this site has as being far more important in terms of making cool shit happen- getting to meet pros and such, etc. that money really can't buy.

all you people that are shitting on this are morons, if we get each NSer to go out into their community to raise money for things like this we would make bank, NS is like the perfect website for this because 90% of the kids on this site are rich as all hell

Seriously, if you want to actually help people then donate your money to actual causes. Go buy some canned food for the food bank, or donate to the Children's make-a-wish foundation so a lonely orphan can get a new toy or something.



The members on this site are among the less hard done by and underprivileged people in the entire world.


honestly, what's the worst that someone on this site can have? A huge medical bill. well if you can afford to ski and are constantly skiing and live in US then you are pretty damned dumb to not get medical insurance.

baring some freak event, what's the next worse thing that can happen? not much.


A relative dies and you need to be flown to see them? take the hit and go into debt the 500 bucks or whatever it is. at minimum wage you can make that back in a week.


great idea and all, but I'd rather see my money and money of others go somewhere that needs it.

Obviously the idea is for a good cause, but I can't see it happening especially on here. The majority of NS'ers are in HS and don't have income to donate from. The next biggest majority is in or just out of college and is also probably living on a small budget. Generally Make a Wish is for people who have a pretty sever disability usually to the point where they can barely play the sport of the athlete whether it be football, basketball, etc.. I don't see how someone with one of these disabilities could ski, unless they are being pushed on a sled or have a sit ski or something. Skiing just seems like it would be extremely hard to do with someone with disabilties. The sit ski fund sounds like a good idea, but I'd definitely recommend doing it on TGR.

Well seeing how they have yet to figure out how to sponsor skiers, I doubt this will come to fruition.
