Slacklining?? Enlighten Me.

First off, no one in my area slacklines. At least not publically lol.

Anyways I WISH I had a trampoline. I longboard, but I'm looking for another summer activity. Soo slacklining sounds alright, but at the same time... I just don't "get it". I just. Don't. GET IT.

Like what do you do with it? Is it just something that will entertain me for a week, then spend time on a shelf in the garage? I just don't know much. In other words, slackline owners, convince me why you love/dislike it.

Bought it, entertained me for about a week, spent the rest of the year on a shelf. I think im gonna give it another go this summer though.

I have done it a few times and it is really challenging. It took a while to be able to get comfortable on the slack and walk on it a little bit, but after a while I got bored of it and wanted to do something else. I know kids that get real into it, and a few that have some skill.

bought it, entertained me for a day, sat in my basement since then. it looks cool in edits and such but in reality its so hard to do anything but get a few bounces in and jump off

I'm also thinking of getting a slackline, just watched couple of edits on slacklines and it seemed like lots of fun. But could someone just like tell me the basic stuff/introduce me to it. I have really no clue of what the thing with it is?

I'm pretty into it. its nice to set up on a sunny day when you dont have anything else to do and just feel like messing around. of course, there is a major learning curve and the better you get, the more fun you have doing it. thats why a lot of people give up after about a week when all they can do is stand up for 10 seconds and then fall off. i was able to learn the basics on my friends' line, so i knew that when i bought mine i would enjoy it / be able to use it the way i want to.

Hmm... Maybe. Still undecided. So why dossiers like it? I always wanted a tramp to practice tricks in the summer that I could bring to the hill...

Can you bounce off a slackline, bust a flip, spin, rodeo, etc, and land on the ground? Do you get enough spring?

its sick to practice balance on, but super hard to do any tricks or anything, i've spent the last week or so learning how to walk it and change direction, super challenging yet so rewarding! i would not buy one expecting to use it as a tramp though

you can get plenty of spring and you can set it up at different heights so you would easily be able to bust flips and stuff. the people that are real good can flip and land back on the line.

I just got one. I hated it the first few days because I only tried maybe 10 minutes at a time.

A few weeks later the weather got supppperrrr nice, so I set out determined to get it. I got a ladder out and used that to help me onto it, then practiced balancing on each foot over and over until I could balance a minute or so on each. I then started balancing on one, then switching to other, and balancing on that, and then slowly started walking! It is super fun once you get the hang of it.

IT WILL TAKE TIME TO GET USED TO. DON'T GET IT EXPECTING TO MASTER IT IN AN HOUR.

Once you master balancing and walking a little, you can focus on bouncing. Depending on the line, you can bounce pretty high. Another plus is depending on the length you can set it up pretty much anywhere. My rachet broke because it was defected which sucks, but I'm getting a new one fo free sent to me. When it gets really warm I am going to set it up across this creek I have in my backyard (Maybe 15ft across) and flip into the water and see if I can walk across. Slacklining with good tunes, good friends, good drinks is a great way to spend an afternoon. I def recommend getting one, but it will take a few hours/days to get good at.

Slacklining helped me get some flips down on snow because it really helps your air awareness. Its really good for balancing, chicks dig it if you get good and its really nice to chill out on a nice day in the grass and slackline with buddies and tunes

just get stoned and learn it. It looks like a good enough time, something that could possibly be fun watching a bunch of drunk people at a party try. If I come in contact with some money, I'll probably buy one.

alone: not so fun, with friends: fun!
keep pushing eachother, make cool setups with multiple lines, high lines, inclined lines, lines over water, starshape lines, etc ...

imho it's not so much a sport like longboarding, more like something to do in the summer, chilling with some beers, fooling around on the line while someone is lighting the bbq ...

i've been thinking about trying highlines however, which is going to be a whole different experience :)

its like 50 bucks or so, so a week entertainment at worst doesnt sound so bad. think how often you wasted 50 bucks for less fun.

^^^^ absolutely right. the creative part, i mean, not the friend part because i only did a little bit during work in summer. its fun and you have so many fun things down in no time, just be creative and try kneeling down, turning around, walk backwards, stand on one foot, jump onto the line, ... thats all stuff you will probably doing within the first few sessions

I broke my right ankle and foot at the beginning of the year.

Would it be stupid to slackline in the future? Can you roll your ankle easily? It looks fun

i also have a injury history with my ankles and am really cautious. but apart from doing flips or so OFF the line, i dont really see a huge danger of rolling ankles.

Check Sierra Trading Post. I got one of the 25m ones for ~$40 with one of their everpresent coupons. You could get the 15 m one for ~30. I went longer so I could set it up over a creek/pool. I don't need 25m for my back yard.

I'm not particularly good yet, but I think they're great fun. I never had been on one before visiting my brother a few months ago. He was gone for the morning, but had one set up in the pack yard. After a few hours I went from being barely able to wobble for a few seconds, to being able to walk across (sometimes).

I'm setting mine up in my backyard as part of a summer circuit of fun stuff that will still keep me in shape. We'll see how it goes.

I don't know about how it would interact with previously broken ankles, but I imagine it would be good for strengthening ankles in general and building up your ankle balance/stability.

It's really fun. You will definitely get frustrated at first but just keep it up and your balance will improve immensely. Not much better to do on a nice day if youre not skiing.

I would definitely buy one, like others said it really fun to just mess around on them. After you learn balance/walking i would reccomend to just fuck around and do skier tricks on them, like swaps and flips off.
