What the heck did you do for fun in High School?

Recently our thing has been just drivin around, bumpin good music, and talking and laughing, it's great. But getting old. We need ideas of places to go, things to do, and WHERE TO MEET NEW PEOPLE.

Everyone (I mean the douchiest guys) always talks about how they "go out" on weekends... Like umm what does that even mean? There's nothing to do anymore haha.

Any ideas? How did/do you guys live it up and get your fun in high school?

i had the same problem as you. you gotta get out of your town. dont get me wrong partying with the friends and getting shitfaced in your hometown is fun and all but there is so much more. you gotta go out and explore

This is kinda how high school was for me. I really didn't party that much, mainly because my main group of friends weren't really that big on partying. I always wanted some more adventurous friends, especially for skiing or biking.

Things turned almost 180 degrees for me when I hit university. I met some people that I would call my best friends now, and we partied hard and went skiing/boarding a lot, among lots of other stupid shit. They were the most interesting and fun people I could have met, and I am very glad that I did. Now, I can guarantee they will be my friends for life. This past school year, I've become 110% more social, and as a result, happier. Relationships with others are what I believe to be the key to happiness.

The lesson from all of this is to find friends you enjoy hanging out with. As many people are saying, it isn't worth ditching your friends, but if those people are holding you back from living life to its fullest, find some other people that will allow you to do that. Also, don't be friends with those people simply for your reputation; be their friends cause they're fucking awesome and you want to be a part of that.

Long ass post, but I will end with this: Take advantage of every opportunity that you can to have fun. Sure you most likely will encounter what people like to call "awkward moments" when you put yourself out there, but believe me, it is WORTH IT! Be confident and outgoing, and those awesome people will appear.

Dude I swear everyone on this site is so fucking chill. Like I'll goddam hang with any of you any day.

Too bad my school just has tools. Seriously, I don't know if its the fact that about 2 people ski at my school, but I can't name ANYONE who's got the mindset of most of the guys on here.

If your friends are who you like to be around then don't leave em. Maybe invite those other skiers to come along. Hey, they ski so they can't be that bad.

Funniest shit :') anyways there are usually cool people from other schools in your area who are into the same thing you like... Maybe go to a party or something and try to find some skiers.

Or if you wanna do something new try yoga. You could get lucky and meet a girl, and it does wonders for your spine ;)

if your friends don't drink/smoke that's totally fine, just do all the same things without such substances. if you find you like them, do them more; try ones you're comfortable with.
don't worry about the cool kids, in the end, they all ended up being pretty cool after they all ended up realizing they were being total fags. go have fun; go on adventures;


talk to girls you want to regardless of any reason you think you shouldn't, a hi never hurt!;

excel in school to your ability; play sports and befriend those who aren't as talented, they're usually good at other things.

shoot bottle rockets and roman candles off lookouts/cell phone towers at 3 in the morning. drive cars up trails they weren't intended. pick apples in october with previously stated girls.
ride roller coasters until they close. go skiing at noon on a school day--serve detention for your transgressions knowing that you have the best reason for being there! throw a pallet fire party camping in the woods in the end of a 4wheeler road with a shitload of kids; parachute trees, explore caves, rappel cliffs, graffiti, read great books, swim in anything you can jump off of high vantage points into, watch Cool Runnings/Ferris Beuller's Day Off and know it word for word, build a cabin in the middle of the woods and throw parties there, climb nearby mountains just 'cause they're there, do something because YOU feel it's right.

start a business doing something you're good at that can make money (house painting, lawn mowing/maintenance, piano lessons or some shit...) or start bussing/serving or some other job like fixing cars that will be of value after high school, buy a car and own it yourself with said profits. start doing cool shit no one's done before and others will want to be a part of it!

high school's a fucking blast just remember to let yourself go and not worry about what other people say or think. wish I'd had more relationships with random girls-remember that they all really want what you want they just don't show it. it really is preparation for the rest of your life, as they say, but it's like a social test trial for all the rest of your years--you have four years to try and do whatever the hell you want under the wing of your parents, then your 18 and all of your actions are liable for judgement under the law and people are more likely to truly care what you do. just make it through with the best grades and experiences that you can! dude there were so many fun things to do in high school I can't believe you're stuck thinking about them, egg a house or something, play golf in a graveyard, haha I could go on and on.

throw apples at cars, make an apple pie, climb an apple tree, seriously find a buddy and do some random shit that's the best part about high school and life itself...
put a condom on the hood of someone's car, leave random notes in odd places, challenge random kids to skate 2 battles, split a 12 pack or a bag of mushrooms with a buddy in a local park and see what happens, ride bikes around town and find new places, blow those huge indestructible bubbles at people on main street haha idk jesus this brainstorming for you is giving me so many ideas of what I should do with my offseason free time!

My bunch of friends in school were like yours - cool to hang out with during the school day but they didn't drink or smoke. Luckily for me, I had some friends from the neighbourhood who went to different schools and they drank/smoked so I would hang with them on weekends.

Winter we just spent time playing video games, watching films and skiing when we got the chance (but i didn't live near a mountain so it was hard). Then summer time was skating, boating, BBQs, parties, camping. Summer was always so much more fun!

I got a weekend job at 16 working in a skate shop and that was the best way to meet new people! I made decent money for 16 and after work me and the two other part time kids would go smoke/drink. The manager used to hook us up with weed and booze and sometimes he'd pay us in advance so if we were working Sat & Sun he would pay us on Saturday for the whole weekend! So we'd have money to go party Sat night and we would come into the shop hungover on Sundays. It was always petty easy for us to find a party because we'd just ask every kid who came into the shop on a Sat what they were doing that night and if they were going to a party we'd get ourselves invited.

Pretty much every kid I met who skated or BMX'd back then was a stoner. If you want to meet kids with weed, start skating!

Don't ditch your original friends though. If you meet new friends, introduce them all. If you get invited to parties, ask if you can bring you other friends along. 10 years on and I'm still good friends with the kids from school - we had completely different lives after HS but we're still close.

That's not what I said. I said they were cool to hang with during the day, but at the weekends when every other kid I knew was partying, they would stay in because they didn't drink. I was a 16 year old kid who wanted to fit in and let loose. And you missed the part where i said we're still friends and more than 10 years on we still hang out.

I'm glad I got the whole drinking/drugs thing out of my system young, those party years were awesome. I had a blast! And now I don't drink or do drugs and I've learnt to have an amazing time in life without getting wasted.

I'm in high school (or the equivalent at least) and I actually go skiing for fun. I've been in school 5 days in the last 4 weeks. Skiresorts are, in my experience, the best places to meet new awesome people. Most of the people I now consider my friends, are people I met in some kind of relation to skiing.

If you can't find places to ski, (it's May, so it's understandable) go on other kind of trips. Traveling doesn't have to be expensive, and dirtbagging it on a trip is always an adventure.

Street hockey in your schools parking lot.
Ultimate frisbee before school on your soccer/football field.
XC mountain biking after school. There are trails everywhere, and if not, dirt bike/snowmobile trails work too cuz you can just go forever.
If you live in a wooded area there's always random shit to find in there, especially if there are trails. Around my house there are a few houses in the woods with acres of random shit that my friends and I used to scavenge around in and hide from the owners. The few times they caught us we'd just get on our bikes and book it out of there through the woods, except for the time I popped I tired at their house, that wasn't fun. I was a long ass way from my house. Biking around was pretty much all I did from when I was about 12 to 16. Now I do XC and DH.

In my neighborhood there are 5 other kids my ageish. We hang out, longboard, smoke the ganj, play frisbee, etc. One thing we started recently is LARPing. Google it if you want. Basically we run around in the woods stoned, have huge sword fights and whatnot. We even made arrows with tennis balls on the tips, they're awesome.
Last summer we just built a drop in and rail in my yard. I dunno, get creative. There's plenty to do if you think about it. Find a group you're comfortable with, and just do what feels right. Climb trees, find a tramp, dig a huge hole in the woods, (shit gets Cray) ski, whatever.

Go cliff jumping and swimming. That is what I do for the majority of the summer when I am not working. I mean, yea smoke a drink, smoking and swimming is one of the funnest things in my opinion. But both are good sober.

Look for something that you've never done before. Go hike up something that will have a sick view at the top.

Get some friends and make a mission for the end of the summer. I don't know what your budget is; but some of my friends made it their mission one summer to build themselves a small wooden boat by hand. It turned out to be really sick. I want to make one too, but I don't have the money.

Go on road trips. My friends and I drove 13 hours to Virginia to ski at Snowflex. Road trips are pretty damn fun.

If you have a boat, or someone else does, go boating, fishing, water skiing, wake boarding all that shit. Get some girls, get some beer, go out on the boat and love life.

You can do all of these things sober and they're awesome, or you can do them high and they're better. Either way you'll have a great time.

Just do illegal things. It makes everything more fun. Climb on the roof of schools and shit. Find random shit to climb and explore. Im like you. None of my friends and i smoke but we find shit to do. Everything is more fun at night. Use google maps and see if there are random buildings inthe woods worth exploring.

But seriously, I love my parents, hate how they run the house. I really do think it has shaped me to be an overall better dude though.

Hang out with people you meet that you normally wouldn't pursue a friendship with, go on hikes, bike, skate, longboard, etc. Good luck

Video games, movies with friends, general hanging out with friends, sometimes partying, skiing, more video games.

I think you're doing all the right stuff dude, if I could offer one piece of advice it would be to actually go out on weekends and not sit around doing nothing. I wasted many weekends doing nothing on teh interwebz and I sometimes wished I made more out of the high school experience

not true at all. being in a private school, pretty much all of my friends are in advanced classes, and all my friends are crazy. no problem going on adventures or doing illegal things. just cuz ur in advanced classes doesn't mean there aren't cool kids. it's just where you are, or who you've met. u just gotta search for the people that seem cool

Seeing as youre in Oak Creek, definitely chill up in mil town a lot since it's so close. Travel around to different towns and meet people from different high schools. This probably won't help as much now, but ski at The Rock, burst, and get up to granite a lot in the winter. You'll meet a lot of local people from milwaukee that ride the rock and burst. And even when you head up to granite theres a shit load of skiers that are down to partayy. I like to meet new people, shit i'll be your friend!
