Best Advice from your Dad

I loved how my relationship grew with my dad once i went away to school and once starting my career.

What are the best pieces of advice or words of wisdom that your old man has given you?

My dad is a total bro, but i have the upmost respect for him.

"kick her back"

"abc always be closing"

"Your reputation walks into a room 10 minutes before you"

"Get her drunk"    "How much beer do you need"     

"Have a beer and gain your senses"

Dad left when i was young. The only thing i can seriously remember him teaching me was "if you want something in life no one is going to give it to you, you have to get it for yourself." kind of cliche but its something that has stuck with me through the years and i take pride in being independent and ambitious.

I talked with my dad the other day about switching my major and he told me this:
Do something that you wanna get up and do everyday, I hate my job but I keep it so I can do the things I want and make all of you guys happy, I dont want you to have to get up and do something you hate and feel like me everyday I have to work.

Not really relevant but w.e. my dads from Poland and hes prob spoken to me in Polish 95%+ of my life, hes a pretty quiet guy and when he speaks its usually really intelligent/serious sometimes hes fuckin hilarious tho. I always think about how weird its going to be raising a son/daughter one day and having conversations with them in English. Plus, I've never been screamed at by my parents in English cause whenever theyre pissed they speak/yell Polish. I cant imagine screaming something like "MAX, GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!"Idk, def gonna raise my kids bilingually tho, cause talking shit about people and stuff in public places is the bomb.

spooky that it's the same speech I got. They only want the best for us, but at the end of the day for a lot of people a job is a job and they gotta do it to support themselves and everyone around them. Fingers crossed I can have the best of both.

You both should really thank your Dad for that. Guy spends 40 hours a week, 160 a month, and 1920 a year doing something he hates so that you are happy.

I just asked my mom for some money for snacks. As she gave me a twenty my dad said "you know he's just gonna turn around and buy a dime bag with that." He knows me too well and I've never been caught.

Yea dude, my dad fucking hates his job. It sucks thats what hes stuck with it but hey, the guy managed to come here with $400 cash in his pocket from Poland with no knowledge of English. I would say were doing pretty fucking well since that haha, Hes always pushing me to do the best I can so I dont end up in a shit job. Love my dad so much

Back when I was 16, I spent all the money in my checking account (all $400 of it) being a dumb high schooler, and I asked if he could help me out a bit. He told me,

"It's ok, I'll front you some of the money and pay for this tuition. But this better not happen again."
Me;"Tuition? How is this tuition?"
Dad:" I understand this is a mistake, but as long as you learn from this and correct your actions for later in life, then it's tuition. If you don't learn from this, i'm not going to be so forthright about fronting the bill next time, and I may even tack on a substantial amount of interest..."
