LINE CHRONICS 2013 SNAPPED (BOTH)

Firstly i know that this should be in gear talk but i thought more people would see it here.

A couple weeks ago i was hitting jumps (about 40-45 feet) in the slushy spring snow. Because the snow was getting slower as the day went by it was getting harder and harder to get speed for the jumps. i knuckled and double ejected down the landing. When i got up to collect my skis i noticed that both of the tails had snapped. Just to clarify what had happened both of the tails snapped on the same jump in the same spot, about half way between the binding and tail. So i took my ski to my local ski shop where i bought the skis, who sent them into line. Line emailed me today and told me that i “apparently”snapped them the wrong way.  I have several friends and my ski coach that saw my crash. I way about 130 pounds and am 5’5, my dins were at 6. I was riding the 164 length. I had only had the ski for 6 MONTHS.

The point of this thread was to get advice on what I should do now and has this ever happened to you where line didn’t respect THEIR OWN return policy. This also happened to me with my after bangs last season, so I am just saying that I am never going to buy another pair of line skis again.

Maybe if you tried landing on the landing of the jump they wouldn't break.

If you have only had them for six months, and only used them for normal use, there are all kinds of implied warranties you can use to make them send you a new pair, if they dont do it right away anyways.

how does one snap tails by casing a jump. i was notorious last year for casing all of the jumps in timberlines big park and coming out unscathed. i was riding suspects too, which are recognized as one of the worst park skis haha. i dont see how you could possibly snap your skis on a normal jump case, you must have landed mega tail heavy or something.

firstly i probaly should have said but i forgot that i was doing a rodeo 7 and landed back seat. i have my rodeos on lock i will always land them provided i have enough speed for the jump.

Right from their warranty page:

"What is Not Covered?
Any problem resulting from impact, misuse, abuse, or neglect. This includes but is not limited to rail and rock damage, crossing of skis, etc."

I'm also assuming you hit rails with them. As soon as you touch a rail with your ski the warranty is void.

Idk i've tried to warranty skis twice and both times that is one of the first things I was told

Why in gods name would you think that they would warranty them then? Warranties usually only cover manufacturing defects, and you clearly just stated that YOU snapped them. If line covered this type snapping they would be broke. And quite frankly, 6months of riding on skis is quite a bit.

I can confirm that this did happen as I was there. Although he did land tail heavy it was simply from not popping enough off a flattish jump. But seriously both tips for a kid that only weighs 130 pounds after only 6 months of use is just absoloutly stupid. Duncan does love his rails but hits them no more then the next kid. And last time I checked the chronic is supposed to be a slopestyle ski ssn't Line or does it have other purposes that maybe I'm not aware of and I don't know about you but from the slopestyle I ski the course is made up of BOTH jumps AND rails.

6 months in my opinion is ntt that long riding skis when the warranty is for 1 year, i have seen many people that look to weigh at least 50 pound more than me and have laced back seat and NOT snapped both of their tails

Go drop 130lbs on your skis repeatedly with the only pressure point on the tails. I don't care what skis you are riding, they will snap. And why do you keep saying 6 months like its a short period? That's how Long I expect skis to last, if that....that's a full 2 seasons where I come from.

Eh..... not sure about this. Dropping 130lbs on 2 skis isnt that much weight. You need to consider the force of 130lbs with speed and drop.

the warranty is for manufacturing defects. You landing on your tails is not a manufacturing defect. If it was your first day on them and they broke it might be, but after holding up for six months I'd say they were made fine.

You keep saying you landed backseat, but in the OP you said it was a double eject. When I land backseat I stand up and ride away, I don't double eject. You seem to think you landed solidly and the skis failed and that's why you ejected, but it sounds like you crashed hard and that's why your skis broke. It sucks but it happens, you can't build a thin piece of wood that can withstand that kind of impact over and over forever, it just can't be done. Not everyone will snap theirs, but statistically some people will. Sorry it happened to you, but this is all about chance, not manufacturing defects. If you hate Line now and worry about snapping more skis, get Surface Blanks.

I under rotated and landed back seat and on my side a little. The reason i double ejected is because i landed on my side. I slide to the bottom of the landing on and walked up the collect my skis from the nuckle. I didn't fall from as high as other 45 foot jump because of a very flat take off of the jump and had a small pop because of slush snow on the take off.

Here's what I saw happen while skiing with OP here. He through his 10,000,000 rodeo 7 but landed 650ish skis facing on a diagonal. At this point he is backseat meaning that during the time his boots were still in his bingings his tips flexed out eventually giving out entirely hence the snapping at this point he is still backseat and falls down double ejecting from his skis.

I have seen people jump late trying to block a shot in basketball and NOT break their leg.
My point is that you were unlucky, or your fall was just the wrong fall. Like kevin ware. It hsppens calm down, Line is great. Dont make a thread about it.

Warranty doesn't cover all damage, just manufacturing defects. My car has a warranty, but if I take it off road and break an axle Subaru isn't going to replace it for free. That's because I did the damage by pushing the car hard. Cars are made for going on roads and if you push them past their limits you can break them. Same with skis, they are made for sliding on snow and if you push them past their limits (lets say flying 40 feet through the air and then smashing them on the ground with a 130lb weight on top) they will break.
     I think people on NS forget that about skis: that they are made for sliding on snow. Just because we jump large gaps and slide rails doesn't mean that is the primary purpose of skis. That's what makes it "freestyle" skiing: taking the sport and its equipment and using it in a creative or unintended way. That's part of the fun, using the equipment to do something it wasn't designed to do.
      Yes ski builders know that we want to take our skis on rails, and they try to build them as tough as possible to help us out, but we need to be reasonable in our expectations and understand these are still primarily snow vehicles. If you want a piece of equipment that is built primarily for rails, for example, and designed to be totally impervious to them, you could do it. It's been done, look at the Ninthward skis with the grind plates and no edges. But when you do that, now you've built a primarily rail sliding vehicle and it's not really a ski anymore, or at least you won't get all the skiing performance out of it that you would like.
     So good people, understand that when you leave the groomer and enter the park you are taking a risk. You are pushing your body and your skis to the limits, you are doing things that neither the human body nor the ski were originally designed to do, and eventually you will break one or both.

Had a pair of Line's snap on a backseat landing after only half a season of use in the park. It's not really worth the trouble of trying to warranty them. My advice: pick a different brand. If you keep breaking Line's there really isn't much point in sticking with them. Some people love Line, but they just aren't for everyone. Maybe try Armadas?

am I the only one wondering why you would rodeo 7 off a flattish jump? I know you have done it a million times but seems reckless. I hate horror stories like this, hate seeing people get screwed.

Maybe... just maybe. Aliens abducted your skis, performed tests on them and snapped them in the process, then put them back on the knuckle before you got up there.

But seriously. I've gotten warranty deals on 3 different pairs of skis I've owned. However, They all broke either the first day, or a few days after owning them so obviously those were factory defects. Imo having a pair of skis last 6 months (a whole season in some cases) is pretty damn good. Also line skis are notorious for the tails snapping. You said it happened to your afterbangs, and now your chronics. And I have a lot of friends who have done the same to theirs as well. In fact my friend snapped his masterminds last weekend in a very similar way.

Sucks that your skis broke, but after owning them for 6 months and owning 2 pairs of lines that did the same thing just accept the fact they kinda suck and try another brand.

not to threadjack, but this happened to me too.

i was doing the final spin out of a kfed on this downrail and my ski popped off. when i picked it up the tail on the right ski was snapped, and i didnt even land backseat. this must be a problem with the actual ski. I brought them to my shop and they contacted line. sucks because i literally only rode them for 4 or so months when it happened.
