I just saw a post on Facebook from Brandon Beckard saying congrats to Sammy for winning X games backcountry?

I thought the vote was still open for 2 more days. Anyone know what is going on?

Its 2 different things. Judges picked Sammy and then theres the popularity contest as well.

Precisely. The medalists (as decided by the judges, which was announced today at Euro X) receive $50,000 for 1st, $25,000 for 2nd and $15,000 for 3rd, while the People's Choice Award (as decided by the public) wins $10,000. There's also an Editor Award for the best editing (which was also decided by the judges) who will take home $5,000.

Wiley isn't getting fucked. Sammy has the superior(In every way) edit. Wiley may win the votes, but make no mistake. It will be due to social media campaign and NS fellating anything Saga says to.

In reality Tanner Hall should have won. He had the only edit with any diversity. It's not called x games bc booter is it?

I thought about this for a bit and think the name is misleading. Don't get me wrong Sammy undoubtedly had the best jump segment but this isn't fucking park related is it?

Real Backcountry? Why didn't sage get a part? Or hell, even Hoji. That would be REAL bc x games.

All I'm saying is that "Real" bc isn't JUST man made booters. Also you didn't see sammy (and a lot of the other riders) wearing a pack, aka Avy gear. Wtf kind of message does that send?

Perhaps they should have a REAL backcountry segment where you have to tour to get your shots. THAT would separate the men from the park rats. Just sayin'

I guess the pack argument is a bit invalid since you can still be wearing your beacon and have your buddy save you in certain cases. The rest of my statement still stands.

Freeskiing (backcountry, park, etc...) is all in the eye of the beholder.  His edit reflects his perspective on backcountry skiing.  Just because your view of bc skiing doesnt mirror his doesnt mean it isnt REAL bc skiing.  How do you know how he got to some of those spots?  And did you see On Top of the Hood?  Pretty sure every shot, jump and turn were all earned by hiking and that was all technically in the bc, just a variation of what you are used to seeing.

Just to clear up any confusion/debate about the format, the criteria that was put forth by ESPN for this event was that it was essentially a backcountry freestyle contest, with a focus on tricks as opposed to skiing lines and whatnot. The reason for this is because X Games is obviously a trick-oriented event, and it would have been much more difficult (in my opinion anyway) to judge a video contest that was a hybrid of backcountry freestyle (tricks) and big mountain (lines). I think it would be dope to see a big mountain-focused version of Real Snow, but that's not in cards for now, however Real Ski Street is in the works for next year, so start getting stoked for that ;)

If Wiley wins it's only because of all the campaigning by level1/saga. I like Wiley and his segments are always unreal, but Sammy's edit was undoubtedly better. really shouldn't be even close.

And they should have put Petit in the opposite bracket of Sammy. It should have been those 2 in the final.

This makes sense. I guess I was expecting to see more "lines" than tricked booters/cliffs. Although seeing the contestants I should have known that it would likely not be that way.

That makes sense about eye of the beholder. But how many backcountry skiers (people who actually get out of bounds) would look at that and say that's backcountry? I think a large majority of them would state they're just building jumps into pow. I know it would be nearly impossible to actually have an event like the one I'm imagining but I think it comes down to is that I think of hard bc skiing as the FWT vs Linecatcher and or Cold rush. Who's to say I'm right?

Btw, call me sometime, I want to see what weekend you're coming down.
