Ski classes for park in the east?

Been interested in doing park but past the age of fearlessly grinding it out myself...and pretty sure I'll get trolled by some 14yo kids(Majority of them are nice and all but there is always that one a-hole that can ruin your day) in park if I just go in there knowing nothing. so...anyone know anywhere in NE that has ski classes for park? I mean, just some in-person tips about basic stuff(pop, sliding box/rail, landing a small jump, etc), youtube can only do so much. I know Killington has park laps but I talked to them and they don't seem to have skier crew...

just ski. why spend money when you can just do it yourself? who cares what those 14 year olds think? everyone starts somewhere.

While that's true, reality is I can't spend everyday on mountain, having a full time job, wife, etc...consider myself lucky if I can get 20 days in a season. Therefore, I don't really want to waste all day falling in the small park when I can get some help from others and progress faster.

the thing that will help you most is just going out there and doing it. if youve seen someone go off a jump and hit a rail you know what to do so just dont be a pussy and send it

Honestly all most coaches or instructors do in real life if just give you the same tips that you'll see on youtube videos or in the trick tip cult. They just make you feel obligated to try new stuff because they're standing right next to you telling you to do something. Just put some pump up music on and try new shit

progressing is really how much ''guts'' you have and how often you will try new things. This is the math....


try new tricks confidently = progression

progression = $$

profit


but on a more serious note, progression is pretty much how determined and stubborn of a person you are, and applied into skiing

Thats the trick, is you have to hit the same small feature over and over again to get it down. Some mountains will offer ski instruction in the park if you ask at the learning center, but they are going to drag you to a small rail or something and have you hike it over and over.
Where in the East are you? Gunstock has the Gunstock Freestyle Academy and they will do park lessons as well. I would bet Loon has park instruction as well.

pretty much what everyone is saying up here, if you got a family bring em up on the hill and you can all do park together haha, but seriously know this in your head, you will fall the first time you hit a rail, and it will hurt a little, but it only gets better from there :D

Just ski through the park, find someone that looks like they're good. ask them for some pointers on basic stuff. usually kids arent dicks but some can be

I remember wanting to take park lessons back when I was just starting off, I must have been 13 at the time. I also remember at that age thinking a ski team would be cool. Really glad now that I did not act on either of those desires at the time. They just do not work well in my opinion. Just go out and ski. Take it slowly and when you fall, get up and do it again. I had almost no one to look up to when I started skiing park, I learned on my own with some friends. Ignore the kids who laugh or mock you, just have fun!

i know a lot of people here will disagree on this, but some of the higher end ski academies can really help your skiing. Just going out for a couple days with a ski instructor who skis a bit of park isnt going to do you anything. At some of the schools though there are coaches who have a true understanding of ski tricks, sometimes even having a form of certification for coaching gymnastics. Youll train on tramps, go to water ramps, and get video analysis and coaching of your tricks. Its super fucking pricy though and not for everyone. Im also sure that there are still some good coaches here and there out side of the academies, but if you really wanna do it right then that would be the way to go imo.

still though just going out and skiing with your friends can be good too, it certainly wont hinder your skiing. I must say though now that im on my own, there are many times when im learning a new trick that i know would be made so much easier if i had my coach there to tell me what i was doing wrong.

agree with every point you made. teams and coaches and lessons arent skiing, skiing shouldnt be a team sport like that imo. go shred with your friends and have fun

thats pretty well how i felt being coached most of the time. I always had a group of like 10 of my good friends to ski with, plus a coach to help me out. Never felt like a team sport to me. Sure you could compete if you wanted to, but it wasnt mandatory by any means

Mount Snow has some of the better park instructors. The people in the park won't make fun of you most of the time. I taught park once there (badly, I usually teach intro to skiing/boarding) and the people really help. But I agree with most of the other people. Just go for it solo.
