I need track spikes

Okay so im a senior and its my first year running track. I used to play baseball for our highschool so I could never do track. But basically i was the fastest kid on our team and I got asked to run track by the track coach because he found out I was fast some how so right now im working on filling a spot in our schools 4x100 team who I think won states last year and three of the four are returning (2 seniors, 1 junior, and then hopefully me). Bottom line, I need spikes this week because we are learning to run out of blocks. But I have no clue what to look for in spikes so help me out pretty please:)

Spikes. Sorry, I just wanted to explain the situation as to why I had no knowledge on the subject as a senior. Sorry if I came off as if I was boasting. I didnt mean to.

make sure you get sprinter spikes
mid or long suck for the 100
i recommend asics or nike

Honestly just get a light, cheap track shoe since you will only use it this year. As for spikes, just get the ones your track uses for regulation. Depending on the material different length spikes will be appropriate and your home track is where you do most of your running. Then buy 2 extra sets in case you have to go to a school with a dirt track or hard rubber.

what position did you play in baseball? If you have an even half decent arm, you'd be stupid not to try and throw javelin.

I went from being a mediocre outfielder to qualifying for states in my first meet. Another outfielder who came with me to track qualified at our next meet.

so it's worth a try.

Haha I actually am throwimg jav as well! They told me to do that too because im tall and lanky which apparently is a good thing? But I have to learn all the technique and everything which might be tough.

go to a sporting goods store and ask for the sprinter spikes. sprinter spikes have like no heel at all compared to mid and long distance spikes. then just try on all the pairs they have and find out which ones you like the most. however remember that you don;t have to wear your racing spikes very long because it's a sprint so comfort isn't the most important thing. and get them tighter than you think you should.

and of course race day is not the best day to wear your spikes for the first time. take some time to break them in before you need to race in them.

Fastest on baseball team. You must be so fast. But ask your coach or teammates? My bro and sis are both distance but their coach owns a running shop so he's a good resource. Why would you not ask him first?

Because my sprinting coach is our athletic director and he doesnt own a running shop? As for everyone else thanks for the help. Ill get you some karma when I get to a computer.

any nike spike is going to be of good quality, but what you really need to do is go to a shop that specializes in running shoes (not like a big wear house type place like sports authority) but like a local place, and try some spikes on. Its just like going to a boot fitter for ski boots, go by what you feel comfortable with and think you will perform well in. DO NOT order online because if you dont know much about it you might end up with spikes that are not suited for the 100m.

Don't order them and don't buy them based on looks. Go to a running store with socks on that you'll race in and try on every sprinter spike they have. Narrow it down to a couple then try on a couple different sizes. You might be surprised how comfy smaller sizes can be. Plus you want them a little tighter. Also, try them without socks on (with a little Spandex sock thing on though), you might find them more comfortable. Comfort is key. When you worry about your feet you don't worry about the race. No bueno. Also, weight isn't a big issue. Don't let it be a deciding factor between one shoe or another. Lastly, unless you have money to blow, don't break the back if you only are doing a season. And when you're done with them, donate them to your track program so some kid can have a pair

*bank. Also, do a few sprints in them before race day obviously, but you don't really have to break them in per say. Spikes don't take much to accommodate to your foot

Somewhat related, I found some almost new nike zoom victory elites at goodwill the other day for 10 bucks. I wish I still ran track though but I'm just too damn slow for sprints and too lazy for long distance.

Try to find a running specific shop. We have Run 'n Fun in Minnesota, and they are really good with finding the right shoe for sprints/distance/field events. Also, I'd recommend 1/8th inch or 1/4 inch pyramid spikes. I've been at meets where they don't allow Christmas tree, or needle pin spikes. And, in some cases they only allow 1/8th inch spikes.

Sounds like the Nike Rival S is for you. That shoe is basically the catch-all from what the sprinters tell me.

i can not tell you how much better this will make it for you. they know their shit and how to fit a spike. in addition, they will most likely give you a solid discount because you are a school athlete.

This. Sporting goods stores like sports authority are notoriously bad when it comes to track spikes. The only reason why I bought mine online was because I was previously fitted for them at an actual running store.
