Fulltilts with AT binding

I was told that it is not fun to use any regulat boot with AT bindings? Is this true? I know you can do it with some of the bindings but is it worth it?

that's physically impossible unless you modify the boot
full tilt doesn't  make a AT boot
AT bindings only fit AT boots
Some brands that make AT boots and bindings are
Dynafit
Scarpa
Black diamond
Marker
Solomon
and many more just not full tilt...

I'm not sure how they would be comfort wise but i have friends who tour with race boots and just unbuckle the top buckles on the ascent. Full tilts WILL fit many AT bindings like the duke, baron, tracker/guardian etc...just do your research.

AT boots have two prongs that clip the boot in at the toe (allowing it to piviot)
full tilt dosent make a boot with the divots in the toe that allow them to function normal

I think you have AT (alpine touring) bindings mixed up with tech insert bindings like dynafits and plums.

I know plenty of people who use full tilts with their touring bindings. I tour in fischer race boots and do get some blisters from time to time, but that is mainly due to my own poor technique. But overal with dukes/barons or the Tyorlia/Salomon binding you should be fine.

The easiest way to tour is on straight AT boots an AT bindings
you can have you down hill bindings mounted to those tech plates but your whole set up is heavy as balls by then...

Touring in alpine boots isn't THAT bad, especially if you aren't doing long tours, a lot of people do it. Of course AT boots are nicer, but that doesn't mean you have to have them.

Normal alpine boots will fit in pretty much any AT binding other than tech bindings (dynafit, plum etc)

All of the ABOVE bindings are completely compatible with Full Tilts.
All of the BELOW bindings are completely incompatible with Full Tilts.

And yeah, like Sklar said, you can totally tour in Full Tilts just fine. I've heard of lots of people who just flop the tongue of them out and do the cables up and tour like that, or just loosen their buckles and have no issues.

The big issue with FTs and AT bindings is that FTs don't have a walk mode.  It can be done, but it's not as comfortable as with a boot with a walk mode.

It is completely doable. I tour with SPKs and it isn't as nice as with a touring boot but it's fine.

This. Walk mode is key, especially on flat traverses. If I take someone with me who has frame AT bindings and alpine boots I tend to move much easier and more efficiently with my Dynafits.

But to answer OP, yes FT boots will work in and AT binder with a frame (non-tech ones).

2 months ago I did a 10 day backcountry skiing NOLS course with my FT boots and Marker Baron AT bindings. By the time the trip was over I only had 1 blister on each foot because I had my boots too unbuckled.

For touring in FT boots, buckle them snug enough so that your heel doesn't move but loose enough around the shin/ calf area so that you have a little bit of flex for walking.

I won't say OP is an idiot but he is terrible ill-informed about alpine touring.

Naw OP is fine. It was the guy that tried to say all AT bindings are tech bindings and AT boots are only the ones that have tech fittings that people are calling an idiot.

Thanks everyone... +k too all except @+=whatever and i knew most of that that i was mostly just wondering how comfteratable it would be... i explained it quite badly in the top thingie but thanks again

There are two types of AT bindings. Tech bindings (dynafit) are the two prong guys that are light and very easy to hike in. They can ONLY be used with boots that have Tech inserts.

The other style is a frame AT binding (marker duke tour, Salomon gaurdian) they can use any ISO boot (alpine binding)

As to the comfort of hiking in a full Tilt? Depends on how long your hike is. IF you are just doing a little side country for 20 30 min you should be fine. If you are touring for 2 hours to get to that sweeet spot way back, I would get a boot that has a hike mode. It can be done but not that great for the longer trips.
