Best material for summer set-up

were gonna make a summer setup and we need to know the best material for sliding thats not too expensive..we have plastic lattice for about 5 feet and then we want something like a carpet or turf that would be good to have on the flat part of the setup

turf, $0.30-$0.60 per foot at home depot or lowes. put that lattice over it for more speed.

My dad owns a flooring business, so I used some extra fiber cushion carpet pad. I flipped it upside down, because the backing on it is slick, soft, and almost water resistant. Put some dish soap and water on it and it slid really well.

can't really attest to that, i've never used turf. it slid pretty well though.

I love summer setups. I probably ski mine more than I do my local hill.

Anyways, I really like turf. I use turf on the drop in and a little bit of the landing, but most of the landing is cheaper carpet. I hardly have to wet it even in the summer and it fucking flies in the winter

The lattice works better on steeper parts, obviously, and like everybody else has said, you can use carpet in place of turf. If you build a really solid setup you won't even have to fuck with it. Mine requires nearly no maintenance.

Although I do remember seeing this really thin orange construction fencing-looking stuff in this one summer setup edit a while ago. It looked like it worked really well. I wish I knew more about it.

I have a like 10 foot in ramp, turf and construction fencing and then a 14 foot pvc pipe, really gnar setup. The start podium in ~8.5 feet high.

I've had 3 summers of very successful summer sessions and all we've ever used is astro turf! The most important part of a summer set up is where it is. If there is any flat in it it's going to be hard to keep your speed, it's KEY to have everything on a slight incline.

trevor's got it right. it can be done with flat, it's just not as easy and you find yourself always lacking speed

i went from this, needing soap and water (this is on an incline, hard to tell)

i have plastic chicken fencing on the initial drop in, and once the tranny starts, it's all turf and it works perfectly on a slight slope like in the third picture. it's super convenient to not need soap on the setup.

I just purchased some Msnow, and it is 1000 times better then any astroturf or plastic fencing. Super fast, you can actually carve, stop and turn. Its a little rough to fall on, but as far as the drop in goes, nothing beats Msnow. Plus no need for any water, and its extremely durable, doesn't wear out.

Also, anyone know what some good padding for around it is? I dont feel like falling on to dirt

msnow tore up my skis really bad when i used it a year or two ago. i had to get a base grind. it took something like 2mm out of the inner edges. and it sucks to fall on. but damn, its fast, and does its job well.

i use pvc on the steep part of my drop in to an astroturf transition/jump, and grass/construction fence landing. personally i don't like the construction fence, because it tears easily for me. also, make it wide. mines only 2 feet wide and can be sketchy at 7 feet tall

yeah but we doubled up on the plywood since there was no astroturf underneath, never had a problem with it. we just layed it over and then hammered in with U nails.

Cost me under $400 for a very nice drop in set up. Never wears out, and is very durable.

Depends on lots of factors. Height of drop in, surface material, and conditions.
