this saturday when i was skiing i fell a few times and whenever i would fall i would always hurt my thumbs. i think that it was because when i would fall my thumbs would get pulled back and stuck on the grab tabs on my line pin poles. has anyone else encountered this problem or do i just suck?
maybe not necessarily a result of the grab tabs specifically. falling + poles is never good on the thumbs, that's where 'skier's thumb' came from. it happens pretty often and is usually pretty persistent cause falling that way happens a lot--ice it and hope it gets better!
out for the season for thumbs? fuck that! ski with no poles and just be a little more careful not to fall on them, its what I do when my tendinitis (from falling with ski poles, which i do a lot more than I'd like to admit) is acting up! Even if somethings broken just ski with a splint on and you'll be fine.
Seriously just buy a thumb brace and ride no poles. It will improve your balance as you're not relying on your poles to keep you balanced. Its wierd to begin with as you're like what do i do with my hands but once you get used to it, it helps.
seriousely? what about you don't need thumbs for skiing lol?
lose the poles, ski on. improves balance, style (once you ski again with poles), ski feel, trick feel... well apparently skiing without poles is pretty awesome 'cept you might look a bit dorky at first haha...
Unless your mountain is strict about their prevent run away equipment policy (most are not), I would remove the straps from your poles. I have some line poles with the grab tabs and it's simply a matter of unscrewing that screw on the top and you can remove the straps without needing to cut them off. That way they are still in tact if you decide you want to reattach them later. Personally I'd rather have my poles fly away from me then be still attached in accident, I've noticed several others in the park feel the same way.
Who the fuck is riding park with their pole straps on anyway? Thats hella stupid. If you know your going down the first thing you should do is chuck those poles as far away from you as possible, which you cant do with your straps on anyway.
Steps to avoid skiiers thumb go as follows
1. Dont wear your fuckin straps
2. When Crashing, chuck them sticks
3. After chucking, make fist with hand, shove it up natures asshole instead of landing thumb first.
4. Make sure to keep your crash steezy, and always land in the afterbang position on the ground, Wallish style.
