I wouldnt say its a shit sport.

I think the progression of the sport is very limited as theres only so much you can do on a 400lb sled. Saying that i hope xgames doesnt drop it. As it grows so will the equipment.

Talking about dropping it because of the unfortunate outcome of Calebs crash i think is dumb. There have been deaths in every sport extreme or not and most sports are still around today, why shouldnt freestyle snowmobiling get the same chance?

personally, yeah, i think it's pretty dumb

but as soon as you start trying to pick and choose what action sports are "cool" or not youre not gonna have any objective discussion. theyre all literally based solely on the basis of doing something unnecessarily dangerous and difficult... that's the whole point. trying to make an argument of which ones "make sense" or don't is inherently meaningless

it's like when people hate on scooters but think skateboarding is the coolest thing in the world. i dont disagree necessarily but it's a totally arbitrary distinction and there's really no objective way to make the argument, only perceptions of "cool" and not

Even if you're just referring to park skiing this is a shitty arguement. Snowmobiling is a downgrade from freestyle moto because they're doing the same moto tricks that were done years ago. Skiing ha almost all the same tricks as snowboarding and more in some cases as evidenced by the nose butter triple.

Compared to modified snow shovel racing, snow freestyle motocross, snow mountain bike racing, and all the other horrible past Winter X sports, Snowmobile Freestyle is amazing.

I never understood how shovel racing was a legitimate thing back in the day. Especially the modified snow-shovels.



Those regular snow shovels are kinda cool, but the modifieds were ridiculously dangerous.



And lets be honest, do you really expect me to clear my sidewalk with one of those...? Can't believe winter X ever had that as a sport.

I agree for the most part. Speed and style works really well with with the sleds. Sled racing is awesome as well, but freestyle is too much.

I used to race dirt bikes and can say with certainty that a dirt bike is much easier to flip around on than a refrigerator with a motor.

I remember watching Caleb crash and just thinking, "Damn, why would anyone want a 450 pound sled flipping over them and whacking them in the head?" It's just not safe...

To clarify, I have no hate for sledding, its awesome. The guys flipping them have balls the size of a bulls.

Also, back country sledding, like the Slednecks, is awesome as well.

My only comment involving freestyle sledding at the Xgames would be regarding that Australian dude who won best trick at freestyle moto last summer I believe. Before he went the commentators were like "he just bought his sled himself and has 4 hours on it training in MN".

Freestyle snowmobiling has got to be one of the most dangerous events there is. And they let some dude with no sponsors, qualifiers, or competition experience enter? And then he took one of the gnarliest wrecks of the night.

I'm not saying they should get rid of the event, but I think there should be higher standards than "hey this guy says he'll huck himself off this jump on a sled, let's put him in best trick".

Yeah it would have had a better shot of being just a thread about the topic and unrelated even if the death sparked the idea, mentioning in the ps was just that extra unnecessary bit.


Either way I don't really care I just thought it was distasteful. I'm interested to see how this impacts the xgames. Remember those couple years they had the dirt bikes on the ice kickers?

I appreciate the massive badass tricks they do. its quite impressive when you think about it, however they are too heavy to progress to much else, double anything is out of the question, some spins would be cool to see, even just a 360, or a 180. I think it is good. but it lacks variety. im sure if you were there it would be fun though, more of a live event im sure.
