Talked to this kid a couple of times before, really pretty chill and nice as well, but I'd have a lot more respect for these up and comers if they didn't come from wealthy families, and "learn" by going to multiple sessions at Windells each year. That's not to say I think I'm better than him, I'm certainly not. I just think intense learning like that is how some youngsters get ahead.

He's 10 years old FFS, and is obviously massively talented with a strong work ethic. You think he works less than a poor kid? No, he probably works harder, how can you not have respect for that? Give the kid a break

Are you sure he's from a wealthy family? From watching the video, I would have said his family is really poor and making significant sacrifices so that he can ski. For example, all his clothes are really, really big on him. Clearly his family can't afford to buy new clothes, so they're just buying him one set that will fit him for his entire life. It's always sad to see families that cannot afford to properly dress their children. It is one of the easily identifiable signs of poverty.

I would like to see more skiers from a poorer backaround, but from what I know, does windell's offer scholerships to their camp? This kid might have came from that............ But anyways, people from a poorer backraround work harder and make more sacrifices for their love of skiing, ie, have to go to a shit mountain cause lift tickets are cheaper, or only hit urban stuff and not really progress as fast because of getting tired, no 'coaching from windells' cause it costs a alot, etc........a more wealthy kind of person could afford to go to park city, windells, woodward, coc, mhscc, etc and have a coach teach them........

the point he's making is that the difference between rich skier kids and most other pre-pubescent skier kids is that the more privileged kids can have way easier access to better skiing, coaching, and probably a week or two or five at summer camps.

kids with rich parents doesn't mean you're automatically a better skier (take a look around ns), but you're fucked if you don't see the obvious advantage skiers with wealthier parents have over average middle class skiers.

And what about the skiing population that don't live in America!? What about people (like me) who live in the UK where there are no mountains and 90% of our skiing is on dry slope!? What about skiers from the Middle East who ski in snowdomes and have never even seen a mountain? Do they not make more scarifices and work harder for thier love of skiing? Probably. Is that because they're poor? No. I'd give anything to live even a 3 hour drive from a shitty mountain to be able to ski on real snow. It's nothing to do with money, it's to do with access to snow. Rich kids, poor kids, who gives a fuck. Do you think being rich makes it easier to learn cork 1080's!? Respect the skier for his ability to throw down, not because he's 'poor'. And anyway, 99% of NSers don't even know what 'poor' means. If you can afford a pair of skis (even shitty second hand ones) and a jacket, you're not poor.

We were talking about respect. Namely, giving less respect to a rich kid than you do a poor one.

Of course a rich kid has an advantage over a poor one in terms of access to equipment and tuition but why does he deserve less respect? Tell me.

If he's a nice kid, and he obviously rips, and he obviously works hard who cares whether he's rich or not?

Your just simply not grasping the point. I don't respect him any less, but does someone less wealthy get to go to Windells, go to top notch resorts, and have the ability to purchase the best gear? No, they don't, that's the point I'm making. And yes, he is good, but imagine how much coaching has played a part in that. Sure he has a strong work ethic, but I guarantee I could find someone who isn't as affluent, who works just as hard to get to the mountain, let alone make all of those pricey purchases. You just don't seem to get it lol.

You've met him so you obviously know way more about his background than I do so if you're saying his parents are rich and buy him everything he wants and send him to Windells then I'll take your word for it. And that obviously gives him the advantage.

I grew up poor so I'm not duty bound to stick up for the rich kids here I just think they get a bad press for no real reeason. And I don't really think that there are many American kids who really 'struggle' to ski.

Let's just say you're right and I've got PMS.

No, no, I read your idiotic post. You essentially said you would respect someone more with equal skill who got there without money, which is fucking stupid. That's like saying a doctor who had his school paid for deserves less respect than the doctor who is slaving away just to pay loans. You're obviously quite jealous of the fact that the kid's family was able to pay for lessons/coaching and he's a better skier than you at 10 than you are at 15-17 or however the fuck old you are.

You have no concept of anything, that doesn't involve being a fucktard. I would respect someone more who has to work hard, who the fuck wouldn't? Why would someone who has everything paid for deserve the respect, they didn't work for it. Sure, he has a lot of natural talent, and oh wait, I've talked to him before, funny enough as that is. But when you get coaching, and are groomed for that lifestyle, and pampered, why should you be respected anymore than someone who works two jobs, is going through school, and sleeps out of their car, or rents a house with multiple friends just to ski, while the wealthier one, does less to no work, and is going to multi-thousand dollar camps, and gets to purchase the best gear? You're clearly not getting my point, and your logic is just so extremely flawed, I lost. Continue.

I'm new, dunno how to reply with the quote thingy. Boogie person, I dont have a mountain close enough that is very cheap, jacket, and have skis that are on there third mount with no brakes on both bindings. I really do believe that being from a poorer backaround is more inspiring considering the passion that person has to keep the passion for skiing. My gears have been grinded, my jimmies have been rustled, my balls have been busted.............But, it is not like if i compare a poor person doing a frontflip and a more wealthy person doing a frontflip and say the poorer person is more skilled, nah man its the same.
