JAHpowAs a person who's sells guns I would highly recommend the M&P Compact. Incredibly popular carry pistol (which I'm assuming your getting it for). Double stack, all stainless (looks black with its melonite finish). Throw in an Apex trigger in it and you'll love every shot you take. Also trijicon night sights help target acquisition way faster.

Made in Merica too.

JAHpowIn the end for caliber choice I would almost recommend 9 mm. Being that it's so light the bigger the round the more jumping around the pistol will do. If there is a general noticeable difference idk, but when it comes down to quick follow up shots the less time to re-aquire the target the better. Also 9 mm is cheaper, and with how self defense rounds are made today you shouldn't have a problem with a slightly smaller round.

JAHpowYou can get a way more accurate rifle than that for the same price. Today I sold a guy a Remington R-15 VTR .308 at a discounted $899 (price match), normally they're $1,299.

The M1A style rifle is like a Walther PPK, very popular but old design. There's much better stuff out there at a comparable price.

XtRemE11Thats what I keep hearing the more I've looked into it. I've got a friend who's got a boner for M1A's and now i do too :( I've shot a few AR platform rifles and yeah they're good and i honestly cant find a fault with them, but I just dont care for them for them for whatever reason.

Went and shoot some today, didn't really like the compacts so I tried a full size and really liked it. Probably gonna get the M&P .40

Anyone have any suggestions on whether to buy online vs store or is it best to just get the cheapest price you can find?

JAHpowDid you ever try the M&P Shield? It is smaller than the compact but another really popular carry pistol. For a full size like you're looking at its not going to be very easy to carry concealed. If you still plan on carrying maybe go with a pit carry holster. Definitely won't be able to hide it in summer.

See if a store will price match an online deal. But the deal will most likely have to originate from a brick and mortar store not a straight online retailer.

But I really liked the feel of the full size in my hand. Felt more comfortable and shot better. From what I talked about with the guy at the store he was saying if you get the right holster you an almost conceal anything. He was carrying a full size pistol and I couldn't even tell.

nkmo.If your not looking to CC exclusively I'd look at the Glock 23 over the 27, its still "concealable" but in a full size frame. The thing I like about the Glock .40's is you have the ability to shoot .40, 9mm, .357 and 22lr by simply swapping barrels or slides, along with the appropriate mag.

Blackhawk makes great holsters. Go to a store and try out a couple different designs. See what is most comfortable, easy to access and best concealable. Also take into effect what area of you body is willing to carry the weight of the pistol loaded and the holster.

I LOVE the SW M&P line of guns. Here is what I have and my opinion. I currently have the Shield 9mm no safety, M&P9c and full size M&P .40 with a conversion barrel to 9mm. Now I love love the full size gun, I can shoot .40 and throw in a different barrel and mag and shoot 9mm. It's great but I will never ever conceal carry it. Honestly if someone says they carry concealed with a full size hand gun Im calling BS. Maybe they did once, but I can promise you, you will not carry a full size handgun everyday IWB. Now I do carry the shield and compact both IWB appendix carry. The Compact is as big of a gun as I will ever IWB carry. If I have jeans I will take the compact 12+1. If im in shorts or something lighter weight I will carry the shield 7+1. Just depends on what im doing, walking around, sitting a lot, driving etc, which gun ill be carrying.

Now if you plan on only having one gun only, I would say go with the compact model because it's small enough to carry, and big enough to use for some home defense. If you want to get a gun dedicated to carry only look at the shield, 8 total rounds should be enough to get out of a situation. If youre looking for a home defense gun and plan on getting a carry gun later, then go full size first. Hope that helps!!!

KEVTRONIve got my concealed. Glock 26 Gen4 w/ Trijicon night sights for my CCW. 1911 for some fun at the range/carry in a backpack if I had one on me. Took me 6 months to get my license in NY. Just moved to Utah though. Going to build an AR for my next project and prob pick up a cheap AK for shits and gigs.

gnarballsianmDmski get on here. glock 19 is a good choice, lightweight, easy to clean and easy to disassemble. It's a 9mm so rounds are cheap as of right now if you aren't blowing off 100's of rounds.

CirilloAnd it's still large enough to handle like a full size. I had a g26 at first but I traded around to get a 19. 26 was just too small. Plus 15 compared to 10 round magazines is awesome.
