your head should lead your rotation. that is the biggest problem I find with people learning to spin.

forward pressure when approaching, pop then spin, look directly over your shoulder not down at the ground until you get to about 270 then spot the landing

Also fully commit to the whole trick. If you are going to do it, then DO IT. Dont 270 then freak out, and land all funky you will hurt your self. I broke my wrist when i was learning 360s because i hesitated at around 180 in the air, freaked out, and landed wrong.

that too. stay mentally focused but keep your body loose so you don't tense up and throw yourself off balance

Start small and work your way up.

You can pretty much do 360s on the ground. Try it on small jumps, cut ups, or steep rollers.

You'll be landing from barely any height so the impact will be easier and the trick will be less scary. If you have some small mellow jumps that would be clutch.


Just start small and work your way up.

This exactly. Keep your chin up through the rotation until you spot at 270. The head leading thing only works if your shoulders go with it.

This may sound a little goofy, but exhale as you pop. Practice standing still. Extend, rotate and exhale at the same time. That will help the pop and rotation to be smooth.

Idk about that. I've never tried to mess with my breathing learning spins on skis or a board and I did fine. Seems like that will over complicate things. I guess to each their own though

Yeah, not everyone needs it, but I've had great luck teaching it this way. They do it standing still a few times, then when they are going to try it for real, you just tell them to focus on the exhale the same way they did when they were standing still. Probably like 8 of 10 times they spin it perfect the first time.

I actually think the reason this works is because it takes most peoples mind off all of the questions in there head about will I make it? Am I going to pop right? Do I have enough speed? When do I spot the landing again?
And just makes you relax and focus on ONE thing instead of 10 so you can just go stomp the trick like you always knew you could.

Zactly. Instead of approaching the jump thinking about all the things people have told you to do and what could go wrong, you just think about one process. If you practiced the static part of it right, the deliberate exhale and pop should make everything happen automatically.

Had this problem when I first learnt them - crashed out loads at 270 just from thinking I wouldn't make it. The time I finally got it was when I just stayed committed to the spin, even though at 270 it didn't feel like I was ever going to get round...but then I held it, despite thinking I'm wiping out, and landed fine. A lot easier doing them now, as I'm aware of the spin and know what it feels like if I'm going to land it or not. Also another thing I started to forget after numerous attempts was to make sure you pop first and don't rush the spin.

Make sure you pop when you reach the lip of the jump, popping to early will cause you to go backseat.

I probably tried 15 360's today and I landed 1 of them... I kept landing backseat and I don't know why. I was trying to keep my chest up and trying to spot my landing cuz those are the things they told me at woodward... My shins hurt like a bitch and I need some good tips... +K for good answers of course

I'm just starting to do them off bigger jumps and I have been spinning so slow that I lose balance and get the 360, but then land backseat or some other way.

happened to me when i was learning too.

I found a really small jump (more of a roller with a lip really) and did like 20 really slow hucked 3s with a foot and half of air until i was comfortable with the rotation, then moved back up to like a 5 foot park jump then up to 10 foot and so on, repetition works for me when learning new tricks.

This I would hick and not lead with my head and it wouldn't work. Look back at the tips of your skis once you start going for the three and keep your head turned and you'll have it

the biggest thing is pop. I see so many people land really backseat on 3's because they dont pop off the lip and try to spin right away. I used to do it too. Once I started popping I was stomping my 3's perfectly every time. Seems obvious but alot of people make this mistake when they are learning.

POP!

Chances are, you're using to much shoulder swing when you fly off the jump throwing you back seat.
Keep constant forward pressure in your boots, pop off the lip (helps to preload your spin), throw your upper body following with your head, stomp the shit out of it.

In all honesty, when I started popping, I consistently started landing more of my 3's.

Bump. So i had my 3's down for a while, but next time on the slope i landed all my 3's backseat . Now when i start doing my 3's, after i have popped my other leg starts to rise stupidly and i cant stomp them. I can do them on a quite big backyard kicker, but when i try to do them from anything with a steep landing i have no chance of landing them. The problem might be that i spin too slow, or i spot my landing too early. But how do i get rid of the leg rising and spotting the landing wrong way? +k for good replies

Definentley relax, pop, don't strain your head so you're looking toward the ground. Also, have patience. You're not going to do it once, have it click, and then be able to do it off of any jump. Start small and don't get frustrated when you land on your ass. It happens.

You're rotating first, then popping. Pop first and rotate as you come up. Pop and rotate when the tips of your skis leave the lip of the jump.

It's very important that you pop and use your arms. Also if you learn on a table top or step up, you cant necessarily get hurt because your landing with no speed. When I was first learning them I just thought of it as jumping and spinning, but the most important thing is to not over think it.

Don't prewind with 3's, there's no need to and it'll probably just throw you off balance. Just bring your shoulders up as you pop and then turn with your head, shoulders and hands.
