Over Christmas break my friend/roommate David Peacock had his bike stolen off the balcony of our second story apartment . The bike, a 2010 Giant Faith, with lots of aftermarket installed, is worth around 2-2.5k.
After the holidays, Peacock (NS username) posted some photos and info about the bike on some facebook pages and what not. His friend Andy saw the post and a few days later happened to walk in to Cycle World and overheard a conversation. The conversation was between a few guys discussing a bike for sale that was a killer deal ($500). One of them was iffy and questioned if it was stolen. Andy immediately asked what type of bike it was. It was clear from the photos and aftermarket parts that this was Peacock's set of stolen wheels, a 2010 Giant Faith. Andy got the number of the person texting these bike-shop guys about the bike and investigated.
Long story short, the number was a landline to this kids mother's house. I'm leaving out names because i don't want to fuck up anything regarding pressing charges. We believe that the kid stole the bike, so we searched for more phone numbers and set up a meeting to "buy" the bike, after a long game of phone tag. One number which we texted was with some dude who said, "the bike he's selling is stolen. Hes a fucking thief and crazy ass drug addict. I kicked him out of my house after i found him shooting a rig of speed into his arm. Hes fucked, stay away from him." We facebooked the kid and he looked like hes 14, so no stress necessary.
The meeting was set up in a sketchy part of my town (Kelowna. Met in Rutland). Peacock couldn't come b/c he is on a cat ski trip to film ski footy. My other roommate, Liam, drove to the meeting ground with myself and Andy.
We showed up expecting some little 17 year old fuckhead to be "selling" us back the bike. We were wrong, it was this sketchy fucking crackhead. We figured it would be easy to fool the kid into admitting it was stolen and threatening to press charges unless he gave back the downhill bike + Peacock's road bike which was also stolen during holidays.
The reason 3 of us went was solely in case we wanted extra muscle just in case. Peacock had tried to address the police about the issue, but they shut him down and were not very polite, so as you can see we took it into our own hands.
We start talking with this guy at the meeting and he's telling us how he bought it for 1k, so on and so forth. Honestly, I went there thinking, "fighting sucks, but it's not the end of the world if you get a beating". At the meeting though i thought, "fuck this shit, if this meeting goes south a broken nose is one thing, Hep-C or AIDS/HIV is another". I crept off for a sec, and dialled the police for some assistance. While on the phone with cops, I see the crackhead freaking out and Andy pointing bearspray at him.
Lucky for us, while i was gone for a minute, Liam was trying to pry something apart on the bike and the crackhead busted out a fat hunting knife for him to use. This is when Andy pointed the bearspray and called this douche out on being a thief (i was hoping he would defer). I came back to an angry crackhead trying to make Liam give back his knife (we said fuck that). His crackhead friend was getting anxious and made him get in the car and leave.
Cops showed up, we gave them numbers license plates, names, and addresses we found all by using google. Charges will be pressed and karma will be delivered. Im also thinking the kid who gave the crackhead the bike to sell is in some trouble. The crackhead will def be pissed that we found out he had the bike. Poor kid! hahaha. Anywho, just a story of justice being served. Sorry it's long.
Side story. Found the kids mom on a website called cheaterville. His dad made a thread about how she went on a fishing trip with a bunch of dudes and banged them while he was working at camp.
Might post some video footy down the road.
