Why the HTML format for images?

I'm not very familiar with the mechanics of web formating, but why can't we just copy and paste an image to NewSchoolers. Although typing [img][/img] isn't hard, I'm just curious to know why we can't copy and paste

the html code for images is img src="imageaddress.jpg" (surrounded by < and >)
The [img][/img] code is BBcode, which is commonly used for forums/bulletin boards (which is where the bb comes from). Since NS is a forum it uses the bb code. Copying in an image address would simple create a link to that image, the reason for the code is so there can be a difference between an actual image and a link.

A lot of pictures work if you copy-paste it, you just have to hit the 'Preview' button and see if it works or not... I usually do that, and if it doesn't work then I just do the [img][/img].

Yeah, we also can't use normal HTML for security reasons. Its important to sanitize the inputs so people can't do the hax.

I do remember those days,
and on topic, I don't use the Fancy Editor which in my opinion makes embedding stuff easier.

fancy editor is a fucking disaster
You can taste the new one we're trying if you write a news article. If nothing fucks up we'll roll that out to the forums one of these days.
