Full Tilt Classics Hurt?

I recently purchased the full tilt classic boots, and no I did not purchase them because they looked stylish. Regardless, they seemed to fit great in the ski shop, so I got them heat molded. Not long after that I went skiing, and my outside lower calf muscles (about 1 to 2inches above my left and right ankles, Peroneus Brevis) hurt. They hurt to the point where i couldn't ski or walk. I believe it may be a tendon.

Has anyone else had these problems?

Is it just a matter of breaking in the boot?

and why might I be getting these pains?

Also I wear a size 8 1/2 to 9 shoe and i am in a 26.5 boot, however my ankles seems to move up and down a lot even though the boot seems snug.

shut-up, I was going to get spk's however I did not like the feel of them, so the boot-fitter offered me the classics. He said they have a 20 year old design that works and he has some too. So i tried them on and loved them, until I got pain off course.

My first questions would be-
Do you have a custom footbed?
Have you had your alignment looked at?

A big cause of this can be from how this design of how the boot closes and it limited ability to adjust the cuff alignment. Are you cranking the top buckle alot?

Thank you, No i do not have a custom footbed, and I have not had my alignment looked at.
I tried many different things including adjusting the buckled to hard and soft, and I crank the bottom buckles more so than the top.

yeah as said above it sounds like an alignment issue. I would guess your foot is pronating in the boot, putting you out of alignment with the cuff. A good custom footbed could help.

But i may suggest trying to find a new shop. If the salesmen tried the spk and a full tilt on you he is not a boot fitter.

I had similar pain in the exact same area when I bought my hot doggers a year ago. After about 2 runs I had to take the boot off. I got them heat molded also. After about 7 or 8 days of skiing in them the pain went away completely. It just takes time.

i think the same thing happened to me when i got my old full tilts.
i just rode the middle and top straps a little looser for a week and tightened them as i felt better. stretched it out too.

exact same shit happened to me today they were great for about 6 hrs then my right ankle stated killing, They feel great when you try them on tho so im not sure what it was, might have been that i was doing alot of butters

it wasn't my ankles though it was about and inch to 2inches above my outside ankles.

This happened to me also I just kept my power strap and top buckle of the boots a tad bit looser than gradually tightened them over the coarse of two weeks

that same thing happened to me in the same spot when i first got my classics but it wasnt bad enough me to not be able to walk haha. but yeah i just loosened them up a LITTLE bit and after another day or two i tightened them back to normal and it was fine. With the heat molded inserts in full tilts (when you first get them) they will be very tight around that area of your leg no matter what. With the boot being so tight around that area (where the muscles are frequently flexed when skiing), it puts a lot of strain on the muscle as it is trying to flex but is being held back from doing so. think about it like tightly wrapping a rope around your bicep and trying to flex. Also, it puts a lot of pressure on the tendon running down the outside of your leg. Simply put, after a few days of using your boots, the stress will loosen and this problem will disappear.

The pressure balance on your shin between the top and middle strap is not evenly distributed so you could loosen the top buckle and have a looser overall fit, or get your middle bucket tighter to balance out the pressure on the top buckle and keep your boots super snug.

Do up your boots then lean forward a bit and you should be able to get the middle bucket a notch or two tighter.

just the stock FT Classics no footbed, I believe. I mean they're stock, factory made, no inserts of an sort.

yea i feel like with my full tilt high fives from a few years ago during skiing sometimes i get a pressure point in my upper shin / calf area

Care to explain your statement? OP said the SPKs didn't fit, why would it be out of line for a bootfitter to have him try on FTs? besides for difference in price, and shell design?

yes i had this problem with the high fives.  they will break in and get comfy.   wear thinnest socks pssible and quit tailgunning which was my main problem.  i have huge calves and this happens with all my boots.  i didnt read any other replies...

I have skinny calfs and their is a lot of room in the cuff area of the boot, at-least on the top.
Although, painful I got to ski my recently purchased recoils and at first I thought they were heavy but I got used to them fast. Very stable.

But yeah my socks were thick around the ankle area, i will try to ski with skinnier socks next time and see if it is just a matter of breaking in the boot.

Put a footbed in there and you should be good. The pain is a tendon from your foot pronating inside the boot, putting strain on everything else in your leg. The footbed will support your foot, and it will put less stress on tendons because your foot wont move.

At least, it should. That is most likely why you have pain.

Hey thank you, I'm going to ski them a few more times and if the pain continues to exist I will head straight to a boot-fitter and see what they can do.

They told me they were going to foot align me but never did, and what is a foot bed, like a doctor scrolls or at-least similar to one. SPecifically, so that it can hold your arch.

Yeah and also, I noticed that my heel inside the boot was MOVING tremendously up and down, yet any boot size smaller and they wouldn't fit, could that of been the problem?

I have a simular issue with my classics. They were great until about my 6th day on them. It feels like they have packed out a bit and don't fit as well as they did. Although like many others if i went any smaller, it would not fit. Im going to try the footbeds. Also my boots are killer on the outside ankle bone when skiing switch. Hopefully a footbed will help that as well. Also has anyone gone down a size on the cables. All of my buckles are as tight as they go.

I try to tighten mine but can't because of the pain, so I leave them loose, which in turn negatively effects my skiing style.

I appreciate you comments and statements, however I will continue to wear these boots and if in fact the pain persists I may buy boots from a different brand.

I'm asking people to help me out, not to rudely effectuate a brouhaha of unnecessary and uncalled for opinions. You in no way helped me, however instead disrupted my time, and initiated certain anger. I ask you upon my requests, to stop commenting idioms of questionable statements.

Also, you probably solely use Nordica boots.

If I may ask prince charles how do you like the 12' Iron Maidens. I have myself a pair of recoils, similar to that of the Maidens.

I went through a plethora of different companies before getting a pair of dead money's last year. I have tried tecnica, salomon, lange, rossi, and yes full tilt. i find that nordica park and pipe boots are the absolute best boots on the market. no one can touch the technology they offer. their three piece and shell design is unmatched by full tilt. like you said, its based off 20 yr old molds. do you realize just hot far this industry has come in 20 yrs? its erroneous to even consider wearing full tilts. nordica has been a trusted brand since 1938. they are the king of boots. when you ride a pair, then you'll understand.

and i maidens. 2013, built on the same molds as the recoil, cept maidens have a urethane sidewall underfoot which makes them way more bad ass.

Yeah, I use to have piece of crap ski boots; surprise, they felt great. It may be a matter of time and usage before you feel comfortable in them. Specifically, the pain is only in the area you mentioned, no where else. I can't find the answer.
