Sizing skis for Children

I've got a ton of knowledge in sizing and picking skis for adult skiers. However, I don't have a real clue on how to pick a ski length for children. I'm looking at buying a pair of skis for an 11 year old guy and a 10 year old girl this Christmas and am hoping to get some insight into sizing.

I'm not sure I want to go too small as they're kids and are likely to hit a huge growth spurt in the next few years. They also won't be skiing so much as to need a new pair of skis next season.

Usually I size kids skis a little shorter since they are easier to control and turn. Honestly your best bet is renting skis for the season for kids unless they are super die hard skiers and going 25+ times a year.

I have access to very cheap new skis from a few different companies so cost isn't a huge issue. But, considering growth, I guess it means they would have to buy new boots every season, which might be annoying for their parents.

yeah try to get a system binding since then you get to adjust it without remounting.


if they arent your kids then I bet their parents are going to buy boots that are to big and they will " grow into them" which is beyond stupid, and at the point it doesnt matter what ski they are on because they arent going to be able to control it.

Ehh as a shop employee I say rent. They grow, height wise and foot wise, but the shops are gonna hit you with a release check and a tune every year most likely and it'll be more cost effective to rent until their foot stops growing. At like 15 you could buy a longer ski and have them grow into it a little. That's my 2 cents
