Can you cut your poles?

Is it a good idea to cut your poles. Specifically, I was given a pair of scott remit poles, however they are 48inches and I am only 5' 6". Is that a reasonable size for my hight, because they feel ridiculously big.

Should I purchase new ones, cut them; or do ski shops cut them? +k

grips on ski poles are usually held on by adhesive. Removing the grip can be a pain in the ass, just twist and pull it will eventually come off. Cut the pole to desired length with a hacksaw (you can use a regular saw if you want, I've done it but i wouldn't recommended) Remember to leave extra length since when the grip is re-attached it will be shorter. Shove the grip back on and your done.

Soak the grips in hot water for a bit before trying to pull them off, it makes it alot easier

Most shops have a tool to remove the grips, we use a pipe cutter to cleanly cut to pole. However, some have a pin going through the grip and pole, these poles prob shouldn't be fucked with

most grips will come off if you clamp your pole in a vise and grab the grip and pull up as you twist it, but look first to see if there is any other fixation method

you should have poles shorter than 48. I use 48's and i'm 6'2. they're shorter than i'd use for racing but they're the right length for everything else

It's pretty easy to cut them. Just make sure that you get a straight cut and you should be fine.

i cut my poles all the time
best way to get your grip off is to hair dry the grip for a bit then it will slip off really easily and then to put it back on after u cut it with a saw you just hair dry the grip for a little and then just press it back on

I close up my vice just larger than the width of the pole, so that when I slide the pole through the grip hits the edge of the vice and can't go through, then i yank the shit out of it and hit it over and over til the grip comes flying off.

Put grips in boiling water for like 2 minutes, hold the handle with a towel (shits hot) and pull they'll slide right off then cut to desired length.

To cut evenly i usually cut one pole then take the cut off piece to mark the other pole makes life easy rather then measuring it out twice.

I had an old pair of poles I cut down, first I ran the grips through a real hot blow dryer, they came off like a breeze, hack sawed the pole, then put the armada grips on that have the little levers that losen the grip for easy exchange
