Well, I bought pistols, but Gotamas are pretty damn awesome. Depends if you plan on using them for anything other than powdeer. If yes, I suggest pistols. If no, then pick: 95mm waist, or 105mm?

Good luck finding gotamas. They're a good ski (I have the 183). There are so many other skis out now in that width. Possibilities are endless.

^There are alot of Gotamas where I live, but Check those if you plan on murdering powder on a regular basis. Other than that, the pistols are quite sick this year...alot stiffer in the tail than they were last year. For me it came down to Gotamas or ARV's and I got the Armadas. They'll be more versitale for Tahoe conditions anyway.

Geoff: No, I just put my boxers on backwards so the hole is in the back...it's alot easier that way.

I looooove my Gotamas. They are the harley davidson of snow skis. If a pair of arv and gotamas had a fight, the gotamas could beat the shit out of the ARVs. better pound for pound. good reach. and has a good left hook, and they have a good jaw on them to take the hits.

Skimack, according to the K2 reps I talked to, the tail stiffening actually wasn't all that big a deal; it's noticeable, but overall they aren't all that much stiffer. I flexed the 189s, and it seemed to me they were right. Not all that different.

183 Gotama would knock a 189 pistol out so easily. And the whole time the 190 gotama would be backing him up with the sanouk sitting in the corner if the shit really hits the fan. And beleive me we dont want that happening, a 193cm with a 110 waist and swallow tail, he would eat a china made ski for a munches snack.

Gotamas are more of a hardcore pow ski while the pistols are alot more versitile. dont even think about the P.R.'s if you have the choice to get something else.

If its strictly pow go for the gotomas. Plus they have that way turned up tail for switch landings.

Dam, I ski on tennis rackets.
The ARV is a more versitile width, and I would not recomend the Gotama for an all mountain ski unless you are an accomplised skier. They are an awsome all mountain ski but unless you have the goods to through a 105cm under foot around, it will ski you all day rather than you skiing it. Heaps of people can get over oared by a fat ski, but they are so much fun they blast through every thing. Two close ski mates have ARV's, the fat Nordica beasts and I have the gotamas and we still manage to get the odd high spped GS run in, jump run and ski any where anybody else can ski and we all have thinner twin tips, but we never use them. Once you go fat - you wont go back. I wish you caution when using this for the ladies though.

pistols are the most versatile. pocket rockets are pieces of shit. Gotamas I don't know, they had delam problems last year, but supposedly fixed them this year. they are also beasts. depends what you want. i love my pistols.
They're both dumber than bricks... I don't care how hot they are, I wouldn't bone them even if they kept their damn mouths shut. I'd probably get a nasty case of sexually transmitted stupidity.

yeah some guy at a ski shop said that the gotamas arent very good unless there's like a foot of powder but i dont know if he's ever skied them or not. is this true or not?

^They work better in deep pow and soft stuff, but if you are a good skier, you can ride anything anywhere. Alot of locs at Squaw ride them as their all mountain skis, so it depends on your riding style. If you like more ski underfoot, it is definately the ticket.

Get the K2 Made'n AK They're the illest ski ever, and I've seen Andy Marhe(I can't Spell) ride them in the park alot, so they seem pretty versitle

If your looking for stricly a pow ski, why not a Rossi B3 or Dynastar Pro Rider. YOu probably dont need a twin tip, and the B3 and Pro Rider will blow the pants off the K2 or the Volkl.

I'd go for the gotama over the b3 any day, it would be a toss up between the gotama and legent pro, though. I would go for the gotama's if you can get some because the factory has sold out and the only ones are in the stores right now. It's a sick ski and you could probably sell it for quite a bit, since they will be in high demand.

^^Because the legend pros are worth about 1100$ US? That's probably keeping a FEW people away from them. I agree with you about the B3, though, it's a great ski. I do like to have the ability to ride switch, however, and the pistol gives me that. So we'll see how it works this season. I haven't heard many criticisms from others.

well, I know whatever you get, you should figure it out quick. Apparently, K2 is out of Pistol's (at least in the 189) at the factory, and as of a couple days ago, only had something like 7 pairs of Made'ns left (only in 179), so basically if you are looking for a Pistol or a Made'n, you'd better find a shop with them in the size you want.
Also, I've heard as well that the Gotama were sold out (of the factory), but I have not heard anything conclusive about that.
Something to keep in mind is that it appears K2 will be doing a Q4 release again, and the Pistol is going away. It will be replaced by the Vicious, and the only thing conlcusive I've heard about that is that it will be a 98mm waist (up 3mm from the Pistol) and have an apparently more skier friendly sidecut.
Haven't heard anything about Volkl making more or releasing a newer version of the Gotama, but you never know.
life is too short to have any regrets

^...Why would they make it fatter and give it MORE sidecut? That doesn't make much sense.

go for the gotamas all the way. volkl makes the best skis of anyone. so damn solid. the explosive is bomb-proof, they are hand made with precision. the edges on the volkls are unbelievably tough, i have done core jobs at the edge, and the rock hit the edge, and the edge is still true.

^The bases are soft like butter though. I've ridden explosives twice and they are hot skis, but both times I've come home with inch long chunks taken out of the bottom.

PR's r salomon spaceframe shit, so 4 a week's skiing they will b great. after that sell them 2 an idiot. Seth pistols rock my world...last season. they ski so good but this years look like the designer was bein fucked up the ass with the pen in his hand. i think the gotama must b a great ski. not skied it but it looks dope and has all the volkl hallmarks.

I loved the Got's but good luck finding them. They added a metal top sheet this year so they are a little stiffer than last. I skied the 176 all over Squaw last spring. If you can stay on top of them they can be an all day ski. I needed more length though. I'm currently looking at a used 183 Got, new pistol's, or possibly some msp's.
