Went to get balloons for a friend today (got a promotion) at a flower shop, got a nice little arrangement and asked for balloons. The lady said they do not offer balloons with helium anymore because we are in short supply. They are saving the helium for people who need it (I am guessing for medical reasons?)
WHEN DID THIS START HAPPENING? This is crazy to me that we have used so much of this that we are going to run out and never have it again.

I feel like a shitty person for using helium for a stupid balloon when it could have been used for a CAT scan for someone who is sick.

It will be odd to tell my grandchildren "back in my day we used helium to make our voices change" when they won't even know what helium was.

Also are we going to take it off the periodic table once it is gone?

I think they use the helium for welding, or at least something similar happend to me once and thats what we were told.
