So many cold 'cures' which works best for you?

I woke up sick.... no time to be sick...
I bought the following.....
Emergen-C
Cold-eZe
Airbourne
Zicam

Benadryl
Dayquil
NyQuil
Alka-Seltzer Cold

Chicken noodle soup
orange juice
Ginger/Echinacea Tea

Of all of the shit up there, what works best?
I have to make it through work so sleep is not currently an option.

steam room. Or what I do is just turn the shower on high and stand under it for like 10 mins. Then take your shower. I feel like it always helps congestion and sore throat. Obviously take tons of Vitamin C too.

the first four all work, but you have to get on them quick, like as soon as you have symptoms
and then keep taking each one every 4-6 hours until your better

the other things make you feel better but they don't actually shorten your illness

Once you have a cold, nothing you can do will actually get rid of it. That's up to your immune system. But you can make sure your immune system is in tip top shape and you can mask the symptoms.

The first category is stuff that will help your immune system. I prefer the emergency packets. I aim for the ones you use with hot water, but the cold water ones are ok.

Then for masking symptoms, I like Dayquil no cafeen or sleepy stuff added so it doesn't really mess with you too much.

Then for food, I stick to uber simple stuff I know wont hurt my stomach. Dairy and Carbs tend to be the culprits when I'm sick, so the soup will probably be easy to eat. I tend to do ok with rice as well. Then veggies and fruit.


Also, it's been proven that honey works better for sore throats than cough drops. So I recommend tea with honey or burts bees makes honey based cough drops if you can find them.

I took 2 benadryl, the airbourne, some soup and have had 3 bottles of water so far today... I might do the steam thing when I get home.
Pepsi and Ginger? That is so nasty, I would rather keep my cold than drink that poison.

Fluids, rest, and meds. There is no "magic" cure. Like others have said, drink tea with lemon and honey for a sore throat. Usually a cold will clear up pretty quick, you just have to fight through the shitty symptoms.

Yea besides taking some over the counter stuff to soothe some of the symptoms I basically just try to drink a lot of fluids and rest a ton.

Ive taken zinc tablets (same as zicam,just kroger) at the first symtoms and 2 days later i had non, it definitely works but only if you take it at the right time. If i fucked that up, i crush dayquil and nyquil for 2-3 days, drink a ton of liquids, sometimes i just get a whole 1/2 gal of OJ and crush it, emergency, more water, etc. if you're persistant, and its just the common cold, it'll be gone in a few days.

Drink lots of water is the best advice I think. Also, if you wake up one morning and feel cold symptoms potentially creeping up on you, start swishing water in your mouth 3 times per day for 30 seconds at a time.

Water works fine, but the swishing-motion helps to break up proteins in your mouth that act as a hold for some of that cold-causing bacteria!

When i was in bootcamp I got a really nasty cold. My rack mate suggested lemon juice and honey. At chow we had lemon wedges so I'd grab a handful and squeeze them into a bowl, pour in about 2 spoonfuls of honey and stir until they're the same consistency. That did better for my throat than any tea or cough drops.

Sleep, relax,and drink lots of water. Fruits, veggies and healthy foods help and usually try to get rid of any mucous asap. Cough up as much as possible, using meds to keep all of that in just makes the cold last longer.

I have acold also! 

No way to cure it.  If you take vitamin C supplements regularly, it will shorten the duration of a cold when you get one, but if you just start taking them after your first symptoms, it won't help at all.

I'm currently taking these Cold-eeze things and they are actually suppose to shorten the length of your cold after you already have symptoms.  We'll see how it goes.

Then you can just treat the symptoms.  I take a de-congestiant, robotussin, aleve, + some hard core cough drops.

Eat healthy, get sleep, and drink water but doing all that isn't going to cure it any quicker, just make it so it doesn't go on longer imo.

I pop this shit like candy! 2 in the morning, 2 at night. Its cold and flu season and viruses wont touch me.

Its high in ginseng, and ginseng boosts the immune system helping you get over it faster.

If I really don't wanna be sick I go HARD on vitamin C, like anywhere from 20-50 grams a day (your usual vitamin c pill is 1000mg so 1g). They have this pure vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid), it's fuckin sour but it's great.

Two years ago I started feelin pretty damn sick on boxing day, said hell no and started downing vitamin c by the fistful. Puked that night, slept in the next day and I was completely better.

skip as much of that synthetic crap as you can, your body doesnt need drugs to get healthy it needs proper nutrition. Drink some white or green tea with raw manuka honey. Eat things with lots of anti oxidants such as vitamin c. Obviously oragnes are good, but there are better choices like blueberries and kiwis. Avoid inflammatory foods like dairy and wheat products. If you want to eat or drink something involving milk, use coconut milk, the lauric acid in it acts as an antioxidant along with a ton of other good effects, on top of that its not inflammatory like milk. Echinacea is good too. Eat proper full meals, your body needs energy to fight off the cold. And yea lots and lots of water.
