I guess the balloon scraped the ground and they are worried about damage. They have another balloon and will try at dawn tomorrow. After that the weather picks up and they may have to try a different location.

It is constructed of strips of high-performance polyethylene (plastic) film that is only 0.0008 inches thick. In total, these strips would cover 40 acres if they were laid flat. Polyester-fibre reinforced load tapes are incorporated to do the weight bearing.

I have no idea. I mean the shuttle gets super hot but it is not really free falling, it has a ton of initial velocity. If you just straight jumped, you would not have this initial velocity. However you would accelerate pretty damn fast. I have no idea how fast you would be going but you would need to dissipate a LOT of heat, just considering the potential energy you have at an altitude of 100 miles which would pretty much all need to be lost to friction as heat in order to slow you down.

Okay. So heres what gonna happen if he gets off. We dont know what its like doing what hes doing. He is going to break the sound barrier, but also break the speed of light. In doing so he will travel back into time to dinosaur time. Fucking dinosaurs. Yes thats right Felix will start fucking dinosaurs. Making little bay Fe-Rexes. Then the only way for him to get back will be with a Fe-Rex skin balloon which he will make. He'll have a GoPro to record all of this of course.

Someone needs to warn him. I think the best way to get there is through twitter; "@redbullstratos FELIX CAREFUL. Break light speed, travel to dinosaurs, fuck t-rexes, fe-rex created. #careful #lookout" I think that 160 characters..

I just got an update saying they may launch tomorrow.
But i think they will have the same problem with the wind, seeing as it is winds aloft, rather than ground winds.

Wouldnt that still push the balloon?

The launch isnt the problem, its more the fact that trying to land a parachute in 30kt wind is horrible. Picture it, your hanging from what essentially is an airfoil, only with air rushing over it. Now that you have a 30kt headwind, you are going backwards. Thats not the problem. The problem is, when he touches down, that 30kt wind filling his parachute will drag him like a leaf across the desert.
