kk so its about time to get my skis ready for this winter, and i noticed that they had some rust on the edges. is there a special way to take that off or just take a nail file to it?
and also for ptex can i put it all over the ski or just on the gash itself?
Sandpaper. Most of it should ski off after your first session, especially if your hit some iced-up sections. Just don't use a rust remover (phosphoric acid) as it can damage the rest of your ski.
well a few things, first, like the two guys above, gummy stone is the way to go in terms of getting rust off. second, yea you can drop ptex on the bases anywhere. you can even get some on the edges, no biggie. That being said, you then need to scrape it off which you can do two ways. One with a razor by hand or two with a wintersteiger. I would say just take the ski to your local shop and have them tune it. the 50,000 dollar machine will most likely do a better job than you in your garage. hahaha, not saying you cant hand tune your ski, but someone who gets paid to do it, will do a better job. hope this helps!
gummy stone the edges. fill the gashes with ptex and smooth it down to the level of the base. a shop will be better at this. i would say take it there.
