Can someone help me understand how the ryder cup works?

if a team is a 1 over the other team that means they're ahead of behind?

Pretty simple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryder_Cup Basically all the kick ass countries get a team of guys together. The teams are split up in groups of 2 and then they have 18 hole match play tournaments against other teams. For each match play win, the country gets a point. Whatever country has the most points at the end of the Ryder cup wins!

yeah its just match play, completely different than stroke play. you win by the hole, whoever wins most holes wins that round. america needs 14.5 points to win, otherwise the cup stays with europe.

what a fuckin let down. the US blew some serious donkey balls. biggest collective choke i have ever seen. seriously the most disappointing golf i have ever watched.

but props to the europeans, they showed up today ready to play and smoked the shit out of us. they played like a team and all did their part. we didn't do shit

must be a little slow because golf is one of the only sports where you can't blame anyone for a loss but yourself. if you lose in golf, its clearly because the other guy, or guys, outplayed you and you sucked it up. basically usa sucked it up, europeans kicked ass and thats why we are disappointed.
