Jumpers knee?

Has anyone else had this?
there was a longer name to it but i cant remember.
but this summer after a week of skiing i got home and my knees were done i could barely walk. It took about 3 weeks of rest and physical therapy to recover. my knees still dont feel right, i occasionally get pain and i dont want it to affect the 2012 - 2013 ski season.
Im not trying to tell a story i just want to know if people have had this and if there knees are still messed up

If that's the same as runner's knee than it's called Patella Femoral Syndrome. Also, yes I have it in my right knee.

I've got rapage knee. From raping my knees all the time for like 15 years. I can't even bend all the way to change the xbox games. I had to move my xbox up higher. I need to go get my right knee checked out. I think I might have fucked it up earlier this summer. Gonna go when I get back from ohio. Hopefully it's all good because I need a good winter this year.

I had the exact same thing after coming back from Windells, just do a lot of leg stretching (Calve, Ham, Quad, etc.) and move around as much as you can. At this point it's safe for you to do some light jogging (that helped me a lot) and you should be rid of the pain within the next week.

i have something similar, where if im not stretched out, (quads, hams, calves) my knees hurt so bad even just walking, until i get warmed up. but after exercising, they hurt again.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but about halfway through the summer, extensively using my trampoline, my right knee started weakening, and I could barely jump, hurt slightly to walk sometimes, etc. However since then I haven't been on nearly as much (school & trying to get into a workout schedule) and my knee feels fine again. So just rest it, I guess. And stretching doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

I have the exact same thing in both my knees. It's really an off and on kind of thing. The legit term is patella tendonitis. Its caused by a build up of scar tissue around your patella tendon ( that big tendon right under/below your kneecap)

What my physio gave me is a neoprene brace that supports your kneecap. Have you ever seen that little black band that basketball players always seem to have around their knee? It's exactly the same concept. The band pushes on your tendon thus supports your kneecap.

goodluck this happened to me, i waited till july and i had a tear in the upper horn of my meniscus, i had skiied and played rugby and football the whole time thinking it was just normal, now i have a lot less flexibility in my right knee

this has been happening to me as well. walking is fine but once i start running either my left or right will give out. this has been going on for too long. like 3 years after my acl tear

word I get this from running, track season especially because I run steeplechase.

just ice it, don't overuse it, and try not to do any dumb shit. also my physiotherapist said that I needed to do more quad stretching to prevent it, so do that too.

Yeah its the same thing.

I have it too, caused me so much pain for YEARS but now it doesn't really bother me anymore.

There are a few stretches that you can do for it... Just look for ways to stretch out your IT band.
Another REALLY good thing to do if you want to be able to ski normally is to do a warm-up before skiing.
Some people think its lame but it helps soooo much. Go for an uphill run in your ski boots, then stretch your legs out in every way possible. The pain will decrease exponentially.

The root of the problem is that your leg muscles aren't balanced; some are longer, some are shorter, some stronger, and some weaker. This in turn pulls your patella (kneecap) out of its track, causing pain. If you stretch them all out equally and do it often, it will slowly get rid of the pain. Warming up before skiing helps because it loosens up your muscles and allows them to function how they should.

I don;t have any pain in my legs or knees (yet. hopefully never). But my ankles and knees sound like D-Day when I walk up the stairs.

jumpers knee is tendinitis in your knee. microscopic tears in one of your tendons. i had a mild (random fact i just typed milf on accident) case of it briefly at the beginning of soccer this year, but if you have a bad case you might need some time (months) to fix it up. i researched into it a little bit. the pain for this is often right below or above the kneecap. for me it was below my kneecap and slightly to the inside.

Compression

should be back to good in no time. if it's a really extreme case you might want to see a doctor.

I have similar problems, and I've been told by alot of people that it might be my patella that needs to be stretched, except you can't really stretch it because it's on the outside or your thigh. So you need to get a roller or something and lay on your thigh on your side on it and roll to stretch it.

I have no idea if that works, or if that's the problem you have, but I guess it's always worth trying

There is a stretch you can do for your patellar tendon but you need assistance from another person

I have it both my knees, it gets better but from my understanding it's one of those things that will linger forever. What I do when ever i feel my knee start to tighten and hurt is ice it. It's pretty much the only thing you can do to it yourself to help it, besides working out the muscle groups surround your knee.

When i was getting it treated, i had acupuncture done to it, and although it's super weird, my knee felt awesome for about 2 months before anything started to feel strange. Then i would just get it done again.

That was about three years ago though, it still bothers me every now and then, but thats only with excessive skiing/working out.

I have it in my left knee. I actually have a cut in my lateral maniscus. It's not so bad that it needs surgery but it's painful as hell to walk on for any period of time. It hasn't stopped me from skiing becuase it happens mid way through last season. Though my doctor told me one bad backseat or just bad landing in general and the maniscus will most likely blow and I'll be out for the season:( shit sucks but isn't going to stop me. Fuck it I love skiing and if I end up needed both knees replaced so be it, as long as I can ski I will.

Yeah as soon as i saw this thread i had to enter, cause i had this, until last year! It just magically vanished after a year of pain and aching whilst skiing, trampolining etc.

THe longer name for it i think youre after is called Patellar Tendonitis. The medical term for this... horrible illness.

Vibes man, i were told by my doctors it wouldnt go away in about... 3-4 years. It went away after a year.

I first started to feel it by the end of lastyears / 2010/2011 season ( i think ), because thats when i started practicing flips, going biigger and not railing as much as i had been doing in the past. Kindof panicced, cause it never truly went away, - trampolining in the summer was a nightmare, could jump for about 5-10 minutes and then i had to ice my kneecap, and the surrounding areas.

Started training my knee again, holding heavy stuff in both my arms (weights? Manuals?) and doing exercises that would help strengthen my knee, while watching TV or something.


So to sum things up a bit, if i were you, i wouldnt stop skiing a bit, because i never really did, nor did i stop jumping trampoline and doing such things, but when it started hurting doing those things, i would take a break.

It went away, way faster than expected so keep ya head up and dont start limiting your... stuff you want to do (hahaha)

That happened to me one summer. Seemed to go away. (knock on wood)

I blamed it on my legs being not used to skiing after a long hiatus over the summer. So the tendons in my knee took a lot of stress. But yeah, I could hardly put weight on my right leg. Fuckin sucked.

Long term fix: Strengthen your legs up! (or just get a patellar strap)

I can't believe no one said torn or partially torn meniscus.

I have it in both knees. Not bad enough to warrant surgery, but your symptoms are exactly what I experienced.
I also have Osgood in both knees, but my sports medicine doctor isolated it from Osgood to meniscus.
This is a different kind of persistent pain that only arises when putting a lot of shock on my knees i.e. jumping as you said.


I skied on mine all last season.
Sure it was a bitch, but you need to balance your pros and cons. It never fully heals without surgery, but the pain does decrease the longer you have it. I never feel it my knees after one year unless I take a big sudden shock to 'em.
Best bet is to warm up your knees PRIOR to skiing (or any athletically demanding activity) I.E. lunges, strides, cycling, etc. Helps to condition your knees and keep the pain minimal during physical output.

this happened to me last season. I thought i just tweaked my knee and it would get better. I went to the doctor about 2 months after ski season to find out I tore my meniscus and needed surgery. luckily its a quick recovery. hopefully all is well with your knees
