Mounted skis from Al's Barn, bindings need to be checked???????!!!!!!!!

since they were mounted without YOUR boots. It is recommended to have the checked and adjusted properly with your boots. Boots can be worn and may not fit like the boots they used to mount them at Al's. Its definitely wise to spend the $20 to have them checked. Most shops can do it even while you wait, so long as you bring them a redbull or two.

I you feel strongly about it you can go get em checked but i sure as hell wouldn't pay for it lol. itll take a minute to check. If they try to charge you never go there again :P

but honestly its probably fine.

check it yourself. its literally one of the easiest things to do in regards to ski maintenance

^right because you all have a test bench to make sure the forward pressure and twist release is in spec.

If the ski was not mounted with your boot you need to go get them set up.

Your bindings have both wing width and height adjustment and this must be set with your exact pair of boots as unless your boots are brand new the toe will have worn.

Its a super easy thing for a shop to cheack, it will take around 2min and hopefully no shop would try to charge you for it.

But as said above you need to get it done, at the moment you have bindings on the ski but they are not set for you in anyway.

no, no i am most definitely not doing it wrong. i have worked in a shop for the past three years, i know what im talking about. if you know what you are doing its easy you do not need any special tools other than a screw driver

^ lol yes its easy if you have worked as a tech and been trained to do it, but if you have never done it before its definatly not somthing you want to be messing with.

ill give a run through.

1. get the bindings to fit your boots to the point where you think its right, they should just about be there if a shop already did it.

2. at the rear of your heel piece there should be a small rectangular box with white plastic in it. if your forward pressure is perfect there will be a black line in the center of the box. if it is at the front of the box, the pressure is a bit more than perfect, but still acceptable. back of the box, pressure is lower than perfect, but is still acceptable

3. to change the forward pressure, you need to move the heel piece forward or backward. forward obviously increases pressure, and backward decreases it.

4. adjust the din after you get the pressure set right

and just like with the din, you dont want it cranked up as high as you can go. you want the forward pressure to be dead center or slightly ahead of cente. din you want to have in the middle of the bindings range, too high and the spring gets worn out, too low and the spring in ineffective

Lol that could not be more wrong for the binding the OP has, he has a STH 16, so the forward pressure needs setting, the wing height and wing width.

It is an easy thing to set, but only if you know how to do it, which chances are you wont unless you have been trained.

Im guessing you worked as a rental tech, not a ski tech.

repair technician in a rental shop in the winter, bike/ski tech in the summer

i must have skipped over where he said what his binding was, most skiers in my town are/were racers so we worked mostly on their skis

Yeah so really what that proves is its definatly worth taking them to a shop to have a ski tech set them for you, rather then trying to take advice off here on how to do it.
