And I'm sure you know Tanner well enough to call him a fake arrogant asshole too. He is more dedicated to skiing than anyone I know. He comes back after 4 years from what should have been a career ending injury to WIN his first contest back! Obviously you can't talk shit on that so you find something that has nothing to do with skiing to hate on him for. Call him immature or make fun of the way he talks, but either way he's the fucking SKI BOSS and deserves some respect for everything he has done and continues to do for our sport. If you want to see someone who is cookie cutter and says what people want to hear go jerk off to an episode of Bobby's Life or some shit.

I've never seen such a weak ass lame name or icon in the existance of newschoolers. been around these parts much longer than you son, or shall i say daughter in your case.

In fact i've spent many hours talking to tanner, my opinion doesnt change, being a jafaican or a overboard wigger is imho a lack of knowing who oneslef is. the meltdowns and public bashings of said sponsors is indicative of any mlb or nfl douche that eventually gets written off and spanked aka manny ramirez,chad douchocinco, etc....

 every post you have on this site is bashing "the children" of this site. welp, wake up and realize your in a school of kids and you have outgrown that. go to tgr and claim your maggotism and silence your flapping gums.

I would half to say if you have been skiing for 20 years, all these guys are legands, have i ever looked up to t hall, no i never likes the ghetto side of skiing but hes a damm good skier, i looked up to Seth, CR JP, Jonny Moseley, and of course Glen Plake.

He's one of the best all around skiers in the world and has reached a level of success that you will never see because of it. Despite his accent and how he dresses, I think he has found himself fairly nicely. Where was he trashing Red Bull again? I must not be obsessed enough with Tanner's life to be an expert like yourself.

Now when an adult (as you claim to be) goes on an internet site and shows an unhealthy obsession with hating one skier and trying to convince members how old, OG and credible he is, to who he thinks are a bunch of children, then that adult might have a few issues himself...

I played a psychologist once, I know what I'm talking about.

It's not like the other kid had some long as paragraph and JenG paraphrased it...it was a pretty simple statement that didn't need interpretation...


Anyways,

I don't disagree that Tanner deserves credit. He's been an invaluable driver of this sport and has made park skiing what it is.

That being said, he seems to have a habit of responding poorly (read "immaturely") to some situations and to me he doesn't seem like the most humble. Don't get me wrong, he's not running around being a douche and telling everyone he's the greatest.

My point is that, while Tanner deserves credit, there are other skiers that I support more strongly because they seem to be more of a complete package, a quality person and skier.

The thing of it is, he IS doing that. Such as the example from just a few days ago in NZ. ("Do you know who I am? I'll have this place shut down.") Or talking shit about other forms and disciplines of skiing. (REAL Mountains, REAL Snow)

Could you EVER imagine Shane or CR saying something like that (and actually meaning it, not in a joking, Shane, way)?! That is exactly why I don't treat Tanner as a legend, and will never hold him in the same category as those I listed before. Being humble goes MILES more than any X Games medal ever will.

Its not Tanner's job to be a role model to you idiots. His job is to ski and enjoy doing it. If you don't like how skiing is being portrayed by someone, then jack yourself off to sleep to Bobby Brown or Jossi Wells. There's plenty of skiers out there that can be your role model or represent skiing in whatever politically correct way you want.

I hate kids like you that think you have to act a certain way just because you're making a living by being really good at something that you love to do.

It's pathetic that the "freeski community" is constantly yearning for widespread acceptance. Who gives a fuck "how Tanner represents the sport". I don't remember him, or anyone for that matter, proclaiming to speak for the entire ski community or signing up to be the posterchild for how skiers are supposed to carry themselves or behave. Pretty sure he gravitated to the sport for the same reasons—ostensibly—that we all do; to have fun.

Obviously, individual sponsors have the right to hold athletes representing their company to certain standards of behavior and conduct, but that's a contractual issue undertaken by two willing parties. Just because Tanner, or whomever else, happens to be an amazing skier with the ability to earn a living doing it, that doesn't mean he enters into an implicit agreement with everyone who identifies as a freeskier that he'll act a certain way for the sake of the larger community. It's a fucking joke. That'd be like playing the guitar and ranting that Keith Richards is sending a bad message to the world about guitar players.

Professional skiers shouldn't have to surrender their identity and conform to some random dipshit on the internet's personal code of morals and ethics. Truthfully, I don't give a fuck about Tanner personally (though I respect his skiing and contribution to the sport), and neither should anyone else who doesn't personally have to deal with the guy day to day and face to face. Appreciate his skiing (or don't) and his place in the pantheon of great progressive skiers, and don't fucking worry about how he conducts himself personally, or even in the media. No one is standing behind you in the liftline and thinking "oh man...he's one of those there twintippers guys. He's probably just like that Tanner feller doing the pot!". And, if there is someone doing that, we just call them assholes and dismiss them all together.

Skiing is not a non-profit org trying to persuade the public to donate to the cause of saving starving children and Tanner isn't on the board of directors caught in a sex scandal hurting our credibility with prospective donors.

He's just a dude who fucking plays in the mountains with sticks on his feet for fuck's sake.

 Who gives a shit what someone else (that you don't know) thinks about someone else (you don't know) who just coincidentally happens to enjoy the same sport/hobby that you do. That's literally the simplest form of your complaint in a nutshell.

Dig on watching him ski, or don't, all the rest is nonsense and has ZERO effect on your ability to go out and ski and live the way you choose to.

Im not saying otherwise, I don't think tanner should change. I care how the sport is represented because I cringe at the thought of comparing Tanner in a tantrum to the way an olympic level athlete should carry his/her self.

Its like watching your best friend, completely hammered, making a fool of himself while trying to pick up a girl. You laugh and cringe at the same time. Either way you still support him and you'll drag his drunk ass out of the bar if you have to.

Tanner kills it.

It's summer and clearly you, JenG nor I have a whole lot better to do. It's a discussion of different viewpoints, whatever.

Burn out? The guy has come back from career-ending injury no.2 to win a big event. It might not be the X Games, but he still beat Torin(!) and Jossi after not having competed since the start of '09. Burning out is the complete opposite of what he is doing.
