Skicross and Boardercross no longer part of X-Games

Via the International Snowboard Training Center:

"BREAKING NEWS X-GAMES Cross Events cancelled for 2013!

Coaches and Athletes,

Last night I was told by a Canadian Coach that X-Games had been cancelled. Like many rumors I was assuming that it was the same as always. But unfortunately this morning, this has been confirmed from multiple sources. The loss of another Premiere Televised Event for the sport of SBX and SX.
In what many consider to be the premier event for SBX and SX, besides the OWG's it has been cancelled for the WINTER-X Games of 2013. There was a possibility of having the cross events
in the Euro X-Games, but that will NOT be happening either, because the budget didn't allow for it.
They are HOPING to get it into Euro-X for the following season, or possibly ASPEN again. But that will remain to be seen. They site the operating model for the Global X expansion, in which different sports will be faded in and out to keep things FRESH as the reason for letting go of all CROSS events.
Last year they cut out snocross for snowmobiling, and that is coming back for this season."

Really a bummer in my opinion. Skicross is a really exciting event with lots of action and same with all the other cross events. I especially think that mono skier x should have stayed because the mono skiers dont get enough attention even though they are the awesome.

Skicross is really sick to watch but for some reason the whole culture just seems so racer and it doesn't really fit in with freeskiing I just see it as racers who couldn't compete racing just my 2 cents.

i guess they needed more events for the Arctic Cat/Ski-Doo jacket wearing hilbilly crowd that obviously Aspen is overflowing with...

or maybe the big corporate players in the ski/board business wanted to keep the smaller manufacturers off the podium and out of the spotlight by simply getting rid of the one event where they're losing ground to smaller brands like Stokli on the ski side and Kessler on the snowboard side.

Yep, more necks on sleds coming to the WXG for sure. Maybe we'll get some shit like:

Snowmobile tug-a-war or races with 2 people on one sled to add to the excitement.

If they want to get me to watch more sleds then have a snowmobile demolition derby so everyone can get all jacked up and ESPN can get the carnage they want with broken bodies and people dead.

There's going to be a brand new event. Shaun white will attempt to break the world record speed for riding up a 100 foot escalator.

For the record to be valid the escalator can be traveling no faster than 1 and a half feet per second. Also you are not able to take any steps forward during the climb upward.

He's going to have to train hard for this one. It may take several tries but we at xgames are behind him.

Here is what our 85% gaper 14% redneck fanbase said about the stunt.

A. It's going to be the coolest thing in the world omg shaun white

B. This is going to be even cooler than when he does tricks in the haff pike

C. I can't wait to go to the mall and try to break the record myself with my friends and stuff.

D. That's the most fucking stupid thing I've ever heard in my live and xgames is major dildos.

i dont think you can argue that either of those events are not extreme...high speed, 80+ foot jumps down a narrow track with 7 others? thats intense. I really like watching the monoski, and the others are pretty cool too, so Im bummed to see that theyre getting rid of them

Can be argued. I didn't used to like them that much when I was younger.


BUT

The problem is, they show the fucking snowmobile race training, they show every lap of the multiple heats of the qualifiers, they show every lap of the 1/4 final, every lap of the semi final, every lap of the almost there but still not the final, every lap of the fuck it why not one more before the final, then every lap of the lcq, then every lap of the final, then a bunch of footage showing the different races.

That's like 73 hours of super exciting footage.
