metering with a flash slave?

if i know the guide numbers of the flash units that i am using and the distance from the subjects is there any way to find out the correct exposier if i dont have a flash meter and if they are not e-ttl flashes?

you may as well just get a light meter if you are using slave flashes.

yeah i'm not sure if you're running tethered or cordless but get a handheld meter, like a sekonic L-358 that does flash metering and trigger them both together and meter.

cant i just average the distances of the flashs from the subject and then add the gide numbers and do it that way, or would the exposier be wrong? i im kind of reluctent to drop 200 on a meter....
