NS Fitness/Training Log

I know that NS is a very active community, and there are many athletes that excel in different sports on top of skiing. I thought that it might be a cool idea to have a place for everybody to share their workouts or training. I'm a runner and have been keeping logs on my training for the past 5 years or so, and I'm sure there are plenty of other athletes doing similar things for other activities.

Whether you're a casual or competitive athlete, this would be a great place to claim a good workout, vent about a shitty workout, and motivate each other. Any bikers, swimmers, runners post up your workouts. If you're lifting for football, cross training for soccer, or going for a hike get in here too. Really anything flies, just a place to share, keep track of, and see how fit Newschoolers really is.

So just post up what your workout was, how it went. And maybe any short or long term goals you might have.

So to start out, today I ran 6.52 miles in 42:23. Felt pretty good. It was hot, but I was running along Lake Ontario so there was a nice breeze to keep me somewhat cool. After a few setbacks it feels good to get a decent paced run over 6 miles to kick of summer training.

Overall goals: get fit over the next 6 months and shoot for personal bests in the 5k and 10k. Immediate goal: get back in shape and train consistently after a long nagging hamstring injury.

Forgot to post for a while. Just ran a 16:50 a week back, got 1st team all conference, pretty stoked. Class meet on Sat, then next Friday state opens. My team has a chance to win both of these races, so wish us luck!

From March to the end of September I ran/walked just about 3 miles 5 days a week and did push ups, sit ups, side planks, and pull ups a few times a week. Lost like 35-40 lbs.

It started getting cold here in NY so I got a gym membership so I've been going to the gym for the past month.

Monday- Chest and Bi's. When I'm not doing anything chest related I'm doing Bi's. I like to superset stuff. Finish off with 20-25 minutes on the treadmill.

Tuesday- Cardio, 30 mins on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the treadmill. Usually burn 700 calories by the end of the hour.

Wednesday- Shoulders, back/legs- Various types of shoulder press and I superset in with straight leg dead lifts and regular dead lifts. I really don't want my legs to get bigger, but its good to work them a little bit. Again, finish with 20-25 minutes on the treadmill.

Thursday- Basically the same as Tuesday.

Friday- Tri's and core. Superset stuff once again and finish on the treadmill.

Its only been a month of doing this routine but I've already gotten stronger on all my lifts. I've dropped a couple pounds as well. I'll probably do something like this for 3 months then switch it up a little bit for a couple months and go back and fourth so my body doesn't get too used to it. Once ski season hits I'll probably ease up on my legs a little so I'm not so sore when I ride on the weekends.

After a week off because of work, and a second week because of a cold, I'm finally back in the gym. Shitty thing is, I'm down about 20lbs in most of my lifts, as well as 5lbs in my body.

I think most of that has to do with being off creating for those two weeks, but I definitely feel weaker, and I have to really push to get back where I was before.

Stick with your workouts to meet your fitness goals and keep your workout journal to measure your progress. Stay close to people who motivates you for workouts and put fun in your fitness.

Could some of you fitness nuts help me out. Im 6,1' 69 KG (i.e lanky) looking to get more n shape for winter/ life. I am currently running 5K 3 times a week and after the run i will do three 30 second reps of lying on my back and lifing my legs off the ground n looking at my toes (works my core).

I wanna just be generally more fit, build some muscle. Chest and core to me seem more important than arms.

I would rather not join the gym as they are expensive as fuck, i dont mind taking supplements however.
