The Ultimate Ski Pole

Hey guys, I am an industrial design student and am working on a project in my studio class designing a better ski pole. I am starting with the grip. What are some features you would want in the ideal set of poles, specifically grip? Thanks

Like a bike grip, but thinner. Grab tabs, and for the actual pole, very very stiff but still light.

Im going to be kind and post a serious post in this thread already. I have used the Armada replaceable grip for a few years now and am very happy with the design of it. Granted it could be a bit rounder on the top so you can with more ease grab the top of the grip (like the scott poles are easy to grab) The downside to the Armada grip is that the loops where you place you hand through where very simple, and would never stay as i wanted them to be size wise, this is why i changed the loop to the scott poles loop which is super gomfy and easy to adjust. The handle it self is great because you have alot of grip even though it is just cylindrical. it would be nice is the armada handle had the scott technology of being able to heat up the grip and it comes right off, where as the Armada handle comes off a bit too easily without any heat, just a little bit of force.

Thanks for the input. I am looking to make a lock on type grip similar to mountain bikes so you just loosen a few screws and the grip comes off. I think a round top is critical for park poles, gonna be tricky to incorporate a grab tab as well though with that. I am designing removable straps as well

i would say a pattern on the poles that would make it more grippy. im not sure how you would do that, but i know it is possible.

lock ons are the best. i use those on my bike and i can't imagine using the stupid slide on grips. they're so much easier.

Grab tabs are overrated, and lock on grip like you explained would be very beneficial! Make sure the straps are well made, and not just cheap bands that are adjustable. I really like this strap design: http://www.getboards.com/product_images/m/249/scott_dumont_poles__28184_zoom.jpg

I've never used grab tabs before, but some people had mentioned them. The Scott strap seems to be the best on the market, I never use straps skiing park though

I allways use the straps for park skiing, and i assure you that the scott straps are the best on the market have tried pretty much all the other straps at one point or another but always go back to scott. Ive got an idea about a screw down bottom of the handle, so you can tighten it by screwing it ontop the pole and then just unscrew it to change poles/cut down the size of the pole. Also maybe a bad idae but filling the poles with a lightweight dense material so that it can take more of a beating without adding so much weight. Id rather have a strong pole thats a bit heavier then a shitty light pole. Thats my two cents. if you need graphics for it give me a shout I can sort something out.
