as for feedback. I loved the song, but it just didn't work with this edit. To me it seems like more of a pow-only song-- it may have worked with the jump shots if they were slowed down a bit. The tempo of the skiing vs. the song just didn't match up. Some really good pole cam pow shots though!
As with the guys above the song did not fit too well with the editing and skiing. Many shots needed stabilized too... maybe invest in a tripod. I liked the pow shots and the colors seemed alright to me. cheers.
I fucking love M83 and love seeing it in videos but these guys are right, it doesn't fit. It doesn't fit for two reasons: 1) The song and the video do not "vibe" together - the song is slow and "epic" for lack of a better word, but the video has quick cuts and very little slowmo. The two just don't mesh in that way. 2) The video isn't cut to the song. This song has a very apparent rhythm heard through the snare/bass - try and keep your shot cuts to these points. Use a waveform of the track if you can. It'll help bond your edit to the song and make it much tighter.
I don't understand why the song started out slow. It seemed wierd - in my head I was thinking there's music playing at me but I don't know wtf it is.
I like what you were trying to do with the buildup of in runs but the anticipation just wasn't there. I think one thing you can do to increase that is to a) get rid of the fade to black at :14, it just doesn't fit, and b) instead of going from slow to fast on that downbeat (at :14) go from fast to slow to emphasize the trick. That'll give it some of that "oomph" you were trying for.
Again, keep track of your cuts. The edit is kind of discombobulated and all over the place at times.
I know its tough to shoot with a GoPro but keep in mind that its got such a wide angle. Being so far away in a lot of your shots left you with lots of dead space with not much going on; it makes for less-interesting shots.
I thought the slow mo lifestyle shot at :40 was pretty cool. Smooth movement, smiles, it felt good.
Don't overuse that video speed ramp on rails. You used it for three riders in a row!
Powder was nuts. I would've put the first guy after the second because he was just getting it. So deep, so nuts; I'm so jealous, I saw none of that this year. FML.
Overall looked like you had some fun making this edit. Don't be afraid to try new things! Keep in mind cutting the music to the beat(s) and overall clip order/organization and you'll be on the up and up!
After watching the video, I'm gathering this is your first year with a camera (gopro) and just having fun with your friends. That being said, looks like you're having fun.
In the future, avoid using a very popular song from a snowboard movie that pretty much everyone has seen (unless you live under a rock) because it just ruins the experience of the edit. The best edits will be remember by many just because of the song, they'll play it in their car and remember the edit/movie to that song. They think of that when they watch your edit with the song. Keep that in mind.
Practice keeping that gopro steady and keep making videos!
It was in the trailer for That's It That's All and in one of the movie segments too. I guess I could understand if you haven't seen it, but I don't know many who haven't.
