This is what sugar does to your teeth!

In the 1930's a nutritionist doctor duuude named Weston Price went all over the world documenting people's diets and the effect on dental health. He found that pre-advent of the modern diet(white refined sugar, some flour) that people were MUCH healthier. And in cultures that did not know a tooth brush, but did not have a modern diet. Tooth decay was almost unheard of.

That one is self-explanatory.

This one begs a little more explanation. These brothers are twins, identical in every way save one. The one on the right had marmalade on his toast in the morning, and refined white sugar in his tea. These two dietary differences produced vastly different chompers. Both consumed a diet of potatoes, organ meats and coarse grains(the basic diet of the Hebrides). Only difference was sugar.

With the modern v. primitive diet thing, same goes for acne. in many 3rd world countries or uncivilized tribes that eat primitive meals, acne is unheard of

its not that hard.

and just for the thread if you try the whole "it was different then than now" thing with diet and exercise and way of life overall you will notice that its exceedingly complex, not just as simple as "we eat cocoa puffs in the morning and they didnt."

Every little thing about our lives is different than those of 100 years ago.

Some peoples teeth are different due to genetics.

My sister brushes her teeth poorly, usually for no longer than a minute, and has never had a cavity

I brush my teeth properly, from 2-6 minutes depending on how i feel at the moment, and I've had several.

" Water fluoridation is the controlled addition of fluoride to a public water supply to reduce tooth decay. Fluoridated water has fluoride at a level that is effective for preventing cavities; this can occur naturally or by adding fluoride. Fluoridated water operates on tooth surfaces: in the mouth it creates low levels of fluoride in saliva, which reduces the rate at which tooth enamel demineralizes and increases the rate at which it remineralizes in the early stages of cavities. "

I do not support water fluoridation because of other health effects but when it comes to tooth decay, apparently it helps...

okay i just did a little reading, figured it wasnt threadworthy but ill post it here. fluoridation is nuts and I'm glad I'm not on fluoridated water (even though council members from town in my county are pushing for it right now)

The three aspects of flouridation that most concern me are:

1. calcification of the pineal gland. The gland in your brain that produces Dimethyltryptamine... there's a reason it's illegal to smoke, and there must be a reason they'd want its natural production to be suppressed.

2. its non-consensual nature. regardless of if you want to consume it or not, you're drinking it.

3. environmental effects

this, and the fact that they cannot control the dosage. athletic people and manual labourers will ingest a shitload more of it than regular people, for example.

and also, fluoride is not naturally occuring in breastmilk and therefore has no place in the development of a baby's brain and body. babies fed with formula (made with fluoridated water) will ingest over 300 times the amount of fluoride that a breastfed baby will, which can drastically effect bone and tooth development. fuck that lol

FUN FACT!

The effects of fluoride on cavities was first discovered by a dentist studying cases of "Colorado Brown Stain" (now known as dental fluorosis). Dr. Frederick McKay realized that the people who had fluorosis had less incidences of cavities. Over years of study, dentists have found out how to balance between fluorosis and cavities, and this is why we add fluoride to water today. What you might not know is that since fluoride occurs naturally in many drinking water sources, the process of fluoridation often ends up with water that has less fluoride in it than before!

Isn't science cool!

I actually did a pretty large report on the effect of water fluoridation and oral health for one of my classes this past semester, and the negative effects are so ridiculously rare/minimal that they really shouldn't even be considered, not to mention that many of the proposed negative effects, such as various cancers, have never been found to have a direct link to fluoridation, and actually been disproven by research.
