how many mm's of waterproofing is good?

Im looking at burtons new lineup and I see some jackets have 20,000mm and some have 4,000 mm?

the more the better...there are also other aspects to fabrics as well, don't let mm waterproof measurements be the only determinant.

generally you want above 5,000 mm for a decently waterproof pant or jacket.

waterproofing is good but also look for breathability so you dont get wet from the inside out.

Yeah im lovin their jackets I've had the same shitty spyder jacket for 3 years now it's time to upgrade. So what are some good breathable fabrics because I do a lot of little hikes n shit where I ski.

higher mm means more waterproof, but generally less breathabiltity.... 10,000 is a good balance of waterproof / preathabitly and should keep you pretty comfortable in any situation... if you ski in the rain or in really wet snow, you might want to jump to 20,000
