Yea I've been trying to produce a little dubstep/house music...it's fucking hard. But you can make some crazy stuff and I really like being able to create my own music without having to play a physical instrument (I play trumpet/piano)

one of the main things i have wrong with dubstep is people who think that "knowing about the genre" is important and feel better than everybody else because they think they do.

pretty lights is the king of generic music. It has some light, hard to understand singing in EVERY track, and then the builds, drops, chord progressions, tempos, and overall flow all remain the.exact.same.

I would say James Blake but his new stuff has strayed way to far into singer song writer - check out his older stuff.

its important to know the history of a genre before you become so enthralled by it. Nero, Mt. Eden and whatever else was just the start of the shitty dubstep scene.

i know. i find certain songs of his very enjoyable such as his remix of Solar Sailer that i posted earlier.


most music people think is dubstep isn't dubstep, in fact, half the music i think is dubstep probably isn't dubstep. based on the link i posted, most "dubstep" isn't truly dubstep.

i'm a big fan however of old school dubstep coming from the likes of Skream, Benga, Coki, and other guys. Person above me beat me to it though haha

you don't. haha i barely know half of what that means, it's just funny because a lot of what we call dubstep really isn't dubstep

on a side note, heres the song from the epic planks commercial... i find it quite enjoyable

the definition of dubstep is a MINIMALiSTIC form of dance music derived from UK garage with heavy dub influences at 140 bpm, what you listen to has nothing to do with that

check the link i posted earlier, and i openly confess/admit that i call tons of music dubstep that isn't TRUE dubstep.

on a side note, Way of the Dub has always been a favorite of mine :D
Caspa did a remix of it at some point which wasn't bad either.

this is my go-to song when people ask what dubstep is

I think you will find it was made with Ableton or something similar.

I wouldn't call it "mixing" with Ableton. the term "mixing" is used very loosely these days.

i don't know how "dubstep" suddenly became cool. literally every time i am in public and some sort of electro is playing, i hear comments about "how totally dubstep" that song is.


ie. the other day in class, my ipod started to play in my pocket with the volume up. it was a trance track and the first thing that i heard was "oh nick, you like dubstep too?"

Balto knows whats up. He's one of the only ones.

Seriously Brostep is the worst fucking shit in the world. And the reason its popular is because it sounds "full" on your shitty logitech speakers and little stereos.

REAL dubstep sounds pretty empty unless you actually have a nice sub and system set up. (No your little 5.1 surround sound computer set up dosent count)

It's all about the feeling, notes so low your ear dosent pick them up but the frequency is still in your head.

icice's rinse 19 mix deep dark and heavy, with extremely precise and tidy production, all mixed together seamlessness.

starts out with some slower 4x4 stuff, then goes into dubstep for a while, and then kicks up the tempo again to end with some bangin dnb






then for some proper dnb...













and finally here are two dubstep songs

one of my favourite skream songs, love the second part of it



this song is just ridiculously large
