N00b question

My friends and I were trying to build a jump in his backyard in Stowe the other day after we got 3 feet of snow, the snow was powder (light and a little fluffy). We built a solid kicker about 3 feet high and packed it down firm as we went. But as we got to the top layer it was really hard to keep the shape, every hit it kept getting large gashes in the lip and other places.

Summary and Question: Trying to build a large backyard kicker with pow. How do I get the lip and top layer to stay packed and firm? I've seen people use salt and water but I'm not sure exactly the best method. HELP...

I just moved to utah, and suddenly i have the same problem
I think for dry snow you use water, but im not sure

sprinkle salt all over it as you pack it. If you only have water then fill your mouth up and spray it all over the jump.

water it every time you dont use it until it freezes and espicially make sure its watered for over night..then in the mornign it shud be really solid

i don't know if you have any logs. But if so, you can stack them to an incline to whatever size you want your kicker. Pack tons of snow over it until its smooth and you can barely see the logs. You may have to add more snow to it as it wears down but it's guaranteed to keep its shape!

backyard jumps are usually better when there made of all snow..if they arent they usually fall apart easily

take a blow torch to it, it will melt the snow, then it will freeze, creating a hard to destroy lip

water and/or blow torch work the best. though remember with water not to just fump it, spray it on. just like put it in your mouth then do that pffftttt thingy. make sense?

Sucks but shape it and let it sit over night and firm up. Can ice it or salt it first too.

what i usually do is get a all milk jug and poke holes in the lid and that works fantastic

use a torch it melt the top few layers of snow and then it will freeze into a solid jump
