A friend of mine took a year off before going to school. I got the impression that he always felt a bit behind because people his age were always 1 step ahead in classes, social situations, and getting to move off campus. He also got in a car wreck is soph. year and had to miss another year. I think he would have gone straight out of hs if he had the chance to do it over.
as far as Canuck's post 'College really isn't that bad, you'll have all sorts of free time on your hands,' ... we'll I'd have to say it depends. Free time really depends on what school you go to and more importantly, what major you choose.
I didn't have any free time until after I graduated (picked the wrong major, 40-60 hours a week of studying plus 15-18 hours in class). I had some friends who only had 2 hours of studying to do per night (damn those english and education majors!) I work 46 hour weeks now and am bored stiff with all my free time.
Freshman year rocks, you'll love it. Much better than 'taking a year off' in my opinion.
