Because they dont want to hit a big rail unnatural, thatd be so much harder.

But its also really sketch doing lipslides on big rails and is an art in itself.

The same reason they clear the stairs of snow before they hit it.
1. It's more dangerous/scarier/harder and it also looks better.

There are a bunch of factors that come into play for different urban hits. Just the tip of the iceberg here:There can be shit in the way on one side, it can look better on one side or the other, and one side or the other can have higher consequences. Sometimes it depends on which way you slide naturally and which way the people who built the jump slide naturally. A lot of the time urban lip on is easier than regular. Get Wit It Children.
