right, but if this is for skiing, then I wouldnt get the mic over the glidecam. If were doing interviews and such, then yeah the mic will be a great purchase. I love my glidecam. Still getting used to it. Would take it over my rode mic all day every day.
ok cool thanks for your thoughts. was gonna get the glidecam off b&h but it just went out of stock again. fml. guess ill have a few days to think about it some more
im using a 60d currently. i don't usually use the xh-a1 anymore although that mic wasn't that terrible like the mic on my 60d is now. im thinking maybe about just going a head and possibly getting both...but thats kinda why i wanted to see what everyone's opinions were. i do a lot of side projects where a glidecam would be very handy. but same with a mic. i think im leaning toward the glidecam tho because that would be more useful for the time being
yeah exactly and thats kinda why i was thinking i might as well go for both. probably the best option. then i can please everybody and do more projects without having to borrow or rent or set up other external mics
make sure to get a recorder with phantom power! and consider some sort of external power source for it as it will suck through juice with phantom on for the NTG1
I shot the entire Whistler skiing part of this edit using my internal mic. The first part is using a video mic. The internal is worse, but I thought the audio was passable.
i honestly faced this same situation with my 60D too. Honestly i had people tell me both were important but it really comes down to what you are using in the meantime for stabalization. i finally caved on a glidecam from bikemlatt, but that is because i got it for cheap. just think about what you feel you "need" more, need as in what you think would do you better off. Do you need audio? are you filming a documentary or filming you and your buddies skiing urban?
