get a gummy stone or an edge file

and run it down the areas you want to be dulled at a 45 degree angle (perpendicular to the edge) until it is dull enough to your desire....

files remove a lot fast and leave burrs. use a gummy stone or just ski till they're worn down.

Gummy stones suck for the amount of detuning you would want for rails. Just use a hand file and go at it. Don't rely on rails to do the detuning for you. That leads to more catching, and it fucks up the edge more in the short and long term.

I've definitely heard that gummy stones work well but I usually just let the skis detune themselves by hitting rails. It takes a day, but then I've found that it's the most natural way to detune them because you're applying the same pressure to each area of the edge as you will throughout the ski's lifetime, if that makes sense.

same here this works great for me.....plus who wants to detune like the tips and tails and the part that hooks when you go in for a turn. I find underfoot is generally all i need some people though want more up to you op

I just rubbed the shaft of a screw driver underneath my ski at the area i wanted dulled down, seemed to work good enough for me

use a file, then go over it with a sand sponge to get rid of the burrs and to further dull the edges

if you know how to sharpen edges this should be obvious:   just do the opposite under your foot

ie:    grind the edges in a way that makes them round instead of square

take a file and run it 45* to the base of the ski. easy. then use a gummi or diamond stone to smooth it out
but you shouldnt detune your whole ski, just under your foot.

use a gummy stone but if you are going to dull them just do the tips and middle because if you dull the hole ski you wont be able to carve in the hard snow

you shouldnt have to detune your edges. ski them hard for 2-3 days and they should be fine.

i bought a medium and fine sanding sponge from home depot for $4. i detuned directly underfoot (medium followed by fine) until it was a bit round, just so it doesn't bite as much. works fine.
