Replying to Sarah and Monster
Firstly I think the huge amount of money raised through donations is a true testament to the impact Sarah had on our industry, not only as a ski pioneer but also an exemplar role model to us all.
It is because of this that I am outraged at Monster's handling of this tragic event. Peter Judge of the Canadian Freestyle Skiing Association stated that Sarah was not covered by their insurance because it was a third party and unsanctioned event. The responsibility lies with Monster to insure their athletes at their event. Not only have they failed to acknowledge this responsibility, they seem to have distanced themselves from the whole situation entirely, making no official announcements and deleting posts from their facebook wall.
I know that the donations will now cover her medical bills and I am one of these who has donated. However, I want to see all those donations used to create a legacy in Sarah's name: not only in improving safety in our sport, treatment of TBIs etc, but also and most importantly inspiring the youth to ski with the same passion that she did to get as much from the sport as she did.
If our donations are used to cover the medical bills and not the above mentioned things I think it shows an absolute failing in the ethics of Monster as a company. I for one will never buy their products again.
Finally I want to extend my sincerest condelences to Rory and her family, very few know how difficult this must be for you.
