will freeskiing be able to thwart off the garbage that is velcro'ed on to the Olympics,

will everyone be automated doing the same tricks while some master wierdo figure skating or aerial  judge in a spandex sipping on expresso cratique and judge the moves.

In growing larger you lose some things

DID we sacrifice the backyard down to earth vibe of our sport for international accredidation and attention.

WAS this an error in the wrong direction?

keep your eye on how this sport will be invaded by the creep politics that rule figure skating and downhill

damn near every sport has the people that do it for fun and the people that compete. for those that compete the olympics just gives them something larger than life to strive for. I know that freeskiing is something that we don't want to see gobbled up my technical bullshit that is olympic ski judging, but just let them do their thing and let them compete.

bottom line - if you're not competing in the olympics this year, then why give a fuck about the judging? let the ones who ARE worry about all that. for everyone else, just sit back and fucking watch it. you might even (god forbid) enjoy yourself.

How could anything be lost, skiing isn't suddenly going to become just the olympics. If that whole judging being bad or regulations or whatever your implying does end up happening it will only be the olympics. In which case it would be a loss for the olympics. It's a win win honestly if it turns out good that will be awesome but if it ends up sucking...just don't watch it.

honestly i wish it didnt get in, i think it will take away from the underground-ness of the sport. i think goot things will come of it for the athletes tho. and i feel its gonna be more like snowboarding now, just a ton more little ass hole posers skiing around on afterbangs thinking their the shit

Yes. The Olympics has ruined skiing. Olympic judges will be sitting in every terrain park in the country, preventing you from doing anything other than dub corks.



Seriously, this whole Olympics ruining skiing argument is absurd. Snowboarding hasnt been ruined, the dudes who already did comps just now did the Olympics as well. Its not like Bradshaw stopped doing whatever he wanted at Bear, or T Rice stopped slaying the BC, or Jed Anderson stopped shredding urban, or Scott Stevens stopped being creative as hell, there are just a whole bunch of different dudes doing different things. If you dont want to be in the Olympics, dont, it wont alter your way of skiing in any way shape or form.

Here's an unlikely route this will lead to... They already have the skiing acrobatics thing where they do like 5 corks, so why would they want the same tricks just on different jumps? Maybe to keep it interesting the judges will do it based on style to make sure it doesn't just become a repeat of another sport already in the Olympics? Just my thinking.

Actually they're just gonna put a rail on the aerials ramp, effectively combining the two disciplines we call slopestyle and aerials. Duh.
