How/where did you guys learn to do big stuff, like inverts and corks? I mean stuff that you can't learn only with snow.

to any beginner park skier i suggest starting with triples on snow, once you get that down, it all comes easy

practice on a trampoline if you have access. at some point regardless if you have access to a trampoline or not it comes down to just doing it. that's all it is. sack up, commit, stomp.

i learned all my corks and inverts to snow... i only know of a few people that have access to shit like airbags or tramps.

I am a head case. I get in my own head and then it fucks with my body. different illegal substances(usually cannabis) are used to help me disassociate with the thinking part of my brain, so i can just do. the substances slow my thinking down to a point where my mind cant keep up with whats going on, but my body keeps going and just reacts, and does what it needs to to survive.

I had never spun past a 180 and that was off side booters. then one day i was shredding this pretty steep line with a couple natural spine/windlips on it, and i threw a 360 on one that was pretty large, and super smooth and clean. I was absolutely ripped at the time, and the spin was slow and organically created.

remember: Slow is Smooth, and Smooth is Fast.

That is correct, my baby sized park jumps have more vert than your whole entire hill does. What can you tell me about going big? Have fun with your 12 foot flat bar, i'll be throat deep in blower sending real drops.

tramps and sacking up. tramps are good for two things, setting the initials of your trick and getting comfortable with being in the air doing your tricks. the rest is a case of finding a jump big enough for what you want to do, getting comfortable on the jump, picking a song which gets you juiced blaring it and going into the kicker like you have before and just combining everything you learned about setting the trick on the tramp and just going balls to the wall. if you dont land it, youve got that initial fall out of the way and you will see that it not so bad and that when you commit it will come together.

Having a puff usually clears my head of the fear to go bigger, take risks I usually wouldn't... don't go rippin a bong, but def a couple one bats gets you into a balanced mental state. Music is a big factor as well.

If you want to learn new tricks, try them into powder first. Wait for a deep day, build a jump with your buddies, and then huck your meat without having to worry about whether the landing's going to hurt if you screw up.

Other than that, practice makes perfect. Start small, work your way up, set goals for yourself and try to reach them.

I remember the winter I decided to learn backflips. Built jumps with buddies and then sat above them for hours, trying to visualize the trick. Psyched myself out for about three weeks. Finally one day I just pointed in without even thinking about it, popped hard, and looked straight back. Such an amazing feeling to see that landing come around for the first time.

One thing I've noticed personally is that I have a huge psychological block about trying new tricks - that is, until I finally nut up, try it, and immediately realize that it's not nearly as scary or difficult as I thought it was. All it takes is a few seconds of courage to break through those barriers.

I hardly ever ski in Mass, I have a house in Vermont and ski every weekend and day off from school I have. The only time I ever ski in mass is for race team but I ski park sometimes when I should be racing. Also I usually go out west every February and hit big cliffs and features. So carry on with your ignorant posts

Lets stop this thread now from becoming a 13 year old debate over who goes bigger, whose is better at skiing, and whose dad can beat up each others and focus on the item at hand. To OP I personally tried a few flips on a trampoline, but there's going to be a time in which you just have to try it. I learned rodeo 5 by just doing it.

I do a little tramp when I find one. And then I ski with a kid who is younger than me, who just fucking slays.  That way I feel peer pressured.  Can't have a kid younger than you going bigger...

just remember that snow isnt that bad...all the airbag shit made me stop going for new tricks for a while because i was like 'oh I'll just try it next time at an airbag' but then I didn't go to an airbag mountain, got tired of sucking, just went for some shit, landed, fell, didn't get hurt at all. Just go for it.

to be honest i have been to water ramps and also we have an airbag. But that isn't what will get you to stomp it. I can stomp a rodeo 5 into the air bag, but when i go to snow it scares the shit out of me, and i wont do it. But i haven't tried mistys into the bag, today i was like fuck it, went for it. 3rd try i stomped misty 5 safety. Its just comitment

yes but his point is that the east coast in general has decently sized parks and hosts a variety of events with larger sized jumps. to the original guy, yes we understand that you're all cool and have huge jumps over there in colorado/utah/wherever you live, but honestly if I can hit an urban d-f-d rail in boston, or on any hill near MA, you bet your ass I can hit any rail in your park and blind 4 out.

you can't compare east and west coast really. because in the end east coasters will just be that much more stoked when we get to ski some pow.

no hate to anybody who shreds somewhere other than the east, just pointing out that we do have decent sized mountains and either way we do the best with what we have. many big skiers have come from the east coast.

1. tramp it.

2. if you have access to a water jump or air bag then use that after perfecting it on the tramp.

3. if you dont have acess to a water jump or airbag then skip out step 2, see step 2 as more of a luxury than a nescessity.

4. Grow a set, pop, go through it exactly the same as on a trampoline the rotation will be marginally slower because of the skis but this really is hardly noticable and stomp

I am much more scared to do things an a tramp than on. Snow, tore a muscle in my kneck this summer, most painfull expierence i have ever had, what i do is practice things off of diveing boards cliffs docks yubes, just about anything into water where i cant hurt my shoulder or kneck
